Meet 2 New Spirit Aussies
ADOPTED! Amos Red Merle Aussie Male (NS 0579)
Amos is a very friendly dog who is a few years old with a good sense of curiosity of needing to know what you are doing. He will usually follow you will that typical Aussie eagerness. He seems to have a very well balanced personality: he plays well with other dogs (we don’t know about cats), he rarely barks, does well with children (10 & 12 years old), is outgoing, and soaks up all the attention you want to give him.
He will sometimes try to crawl partway into your lap, just to get a little closer and soak it in better. He’s not afraid to give you a few gently licks, but doesn’t slobber all over you.
He walks pretty well on a leash, but could use some additional training. He will ride okay in a car, but tends to drool a lot, so he will need some help realizing that car rides are cool.
Amos is a medium sized Aussie weighing around 45 pounds. Amos is being fostered in the Chicago area.

Brownie – 5 Month Old Red Tri Australian Shepherd NS 0581 ADOPTED!
Meet Brownie, who is a 5 month old red tri. Brownie is ready for a home, he is fully vetted and neutered, he loves girls a lot, as he has a small fan club at his foster home. He also gets along well with guys.
Brownie has a fantastic coat, it is very thick and full of deep, red colors and textures. He takes a bath great, in fact he loves water extremely well, whether it’s a bath or the lake on his walk, the water bowl in the kitchen, he seems to have a large love of water.
Brownie loves to snuggle and be in your lap. He is learning what a crate is for, we think whom ever had him before was not real nice to him and used the crate as punishment. We are working on teaching him a crate is great place. He is also learning where the bathroom is.
He gets along with other dogs well and even the cat, though he is into chasing and herding the cat at times.
He walks on a leash well, but will occasionally move from side to side and loves to ride in the car. He actually is very velcro and will be right behind you, sometimes stepping on the back of your foot.
Brownie is learning some basic commands like sit, stay, lay and is ready for that family.
Brownie is currently being fostered in Bloomington, IL. Please complete an application at New Spirit 4 Aussie Rescue. Reference NS 0581
A Plea For Foster Homes
I am receiving 1 to 2 requests a day to rescue an Australian Shepherd, many are in Hi-Kill Shelters, meaning they have 3 to 10 days to be claimed by a rescue. many are just good little guys and girls that had owners that didn’t want them anymore, so no fault of their own, they will be dead by the end of the week.
If you think you have time and space to help foster and Aussie, PLEASE contact us, or better yet do an application and get on board to foster this great breed today. If you are thinking of adopting, what better way then to kick the tires and see if instead the reward is to save a life and help another family find that best friend.
RIO Black Bi Aussie Male NS 0577 ADOPTED
Meet Rio, he is around 1 year old, he has one of the shinest black coats we have ever seen.
Rio walks well on a leash, has no problems with cats, gets along great with kids, and adults, be it a man or a women. He loves to play with other dogs, and he loves to go for car rides.
Rio is shy though when he first meets you, he isn’t the type to jump on you.
Rio is housebroken, and will crate but doesn’t need one when left alone.
He loves to snuggle on the couch or lay on the floor at your feet. Rio will need a home that is willing to let him come out of his shell when he first arrives. Once he knows you are his home, he is all about you.

Get Prepared For an Aussie Invasion
We took in over 3 new Aussies this weekend, and adopted out a couple. I hope to post new BIO’s in the next few days after we figure out what we have. All are excellent guys and girls, that are in the puppy range of their age.
Also we will be at the Tri-Shark in Hudson Illinois on June 5th, selling magnets, bandanas and a chance to win a Portrait of your Aussie, or cat! More details to follow this week. Hope to see some of our adopters from ARPH and New Spirit there to celebrate great causes.
Coming This Weekend
It’s Great To See Them Grow
Say hello to Sam, he was a mini Australian Shepherd that was down in Paris Illinois. He was dumped because he would nip at the child in the home, and we beleive he was abused and beaten for doing this, since he would shrink away when we tried to measure his height.
He was adopted by a family in Southern Illinois, she gave him time, attention, and lots of love, and he has turned into a confident, happy young man. Way to go Sam!
3 New Aussies Coming To New Spirit
We have 3 new Aussies coming in this week. Plus 2 from earlier this week. New Spirit is looking for more foster homes, as well as adopters. Visit the IL Petfinder page if you are looking as well as always check here.
Meet our latest guys and girls
Dashiell Blue Merle (NS 0573) ADOPTED!!!
Dash is a 1 year old blue merle male currently weighing 52 pounds. Dash is a large guy with a healthy appetite so will be gaining weight as he matures. He has a perfect personality – very happy and very friendly – a natural charmer with his deep, dark, innocent eyes.
Dash found his way to rescue as a former farm dog loving to chase cows. The original owner was afraid of other farmers mistaking him for a wild animal – not a safe situation. Now in foster care Dash is awesome and loves his three, new, four-legged friends (2 Aussies and one cat) – not to mention his new foster parents and brother. Dash is friendly to all people he encounters showing no issues with men or women. Dash has a very gentle demeanor with the children that come in and out of the house – always eager to play or share a spot on the sofa. He also loves and respects his feline friend and enjoys “chase” on occasion, if the cat is up for it that is.
Dash would benefit in finding a permanent home with other pets and children because of his love to run and play in the fenced-in back yard with them all. Dash is a “Velcro” Aussie and would do best not being away from his “people” for very long. He is learning to leash-walk and with a little more time will have it down cold. Dash has good recall, is house broken and understands the standard commands of “sit,” “stay,” “come,” “take it” (for food and treats), and “free” (for releasing outside to play with his new friends). He does extremely well in the car and easily shares the space in the back of the SUV with the other Aussies. He is crated when the foster family is away and has no fear of his large crate – and prefers to watch TV while the family is out.
Dash is being fostered in Chicagoland, IL Apply here for Dashiell NS 0573
2 New Blue Merles Coming To New Spirit
Black Mini Female Aussie
Shane 6 month old Lethal White Aussie Puppy ADOPTED
Shane is 6 months old, UTD on shots, neutered, housetrained, special needs (deaf)
Shane is a friendly, playful, fluff ball!!! He is one of the most adorable puppies you will meet. Shane is a purebred Aussie puppy, born 10/31/2009, with a beautiful soft coat and a short tail. Shane thinks everyone should be his friend, young old and in between. He is great with cats and enjoys playing with the other dogs, romping in the backyard and playing fetch. He is very well behaved and laid back, especially for a puppy. Shane rarely barks, doesn’t jump up on people, and is wonderful in a crate. He will lay by your feet when you sit, and loves going anywhere with you. He doesn’t pull on a leash (but does tend to wander at your side checking things out!) This handsome young man will make a wonderful companion for some lucky family.
Shane is deaf although he doesn’t know it. He has learned lots of hand signals, and has stolen a lot of hearts. Shane is a difficult dog for us, he is so perfect that it will very hard for us to give him up. This little guy is easy going, smart, loving and wonderful in every way!!!
Shane has been neutered, wormed and is current on his puppy shots. He is housetrained, but since he is still a puppy and may find something inappropriate to chew on if he is bored, he is still crated when his family is gone. Shane’s adoption fee is $200. Please complete an adoption application at www.safesanctuary.org or call his foster mom at 612-799-2989
Katie (Protege #0153) ADOPTED!
Looking for a devoted companion? If so, Katie (Protege #0153) is your girl! Katie is a 10 month old red-tri Australian Shepherd, nicely sized at 30 pounds. She is spayed, heartworm checked negative, up to date on vaccinations, and currently on flea/tick/heatworm preventatives.
Katie is friendly, outgoing with all people, and loves to be cuddles and petted. She has plenty of energy for activities like going for a walk or romping in the back yard, but settles in nicely in the house when it is appropriate to do so. Katie is housetrained and crate trained, and walks nicely on a leash. Katie gets along well with other dogs, and LOVES to be around children. We feel Katie would do best in a home without cats as she follows them around trying to get them to play. In the right home with a lot of patience and training, she could potentially share a home with a dog savvy cat.
Katie fusses initially when crated or left alone in the house because she wants to go with you wherever you are going, but she does settle and quiet down after a bit.
Katie is seeking a forever home with a family with room in their hearts for all the love she has to share with them, and room on their couch for snuggling. Katie is fostered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; contact Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com for information or with questions.
Meet Missy (Protege #0152) ADOPTED!
Missy is a fairly laid back blue merle female Australian Shepherd. She weighs approximately 40 pounds and is a little on the heavy side.
Prior to coming into Protege Canine Rescue, Missy was abandoned by her original owner when they moved away. A neighboring family was nice enough to take her in where she was mostly an outside dog and lived on a farm with another Aussie. She also lived with kids and was great with their kids. The family had Missy for about a year and they hoped that she would be able to help work the livestock with the other Aussie on the farm. Unfortunately she was scared to death of the pigs and the only things that she wanted to chase were the horses. The family was afraid that Missy would get kicked by the horses so they contacted us to see if we could find her a new forever home since the farm life wasn’t for her.
Missy has adapted very well to living inside of the house. She hasn’t had any accidents in the house. She is crate trained. Actually she kennels up like a dream! All you have to do is tell her to “kennel-up” and she runs downstairs, gets in the crate and waits until you shut the door. She doesn’t even make a peep when she is in the crate. She rarely if ever barks. Missy does not jump up on people. She will jump up in front of you as she is kind of bouncy when she is outside in the back yard but won’t jump on you. She also is not a digger.
Missy is a little shy when first meeting people but does warm up rather quickly and even faster if you pet her. She loves being petted and she’ll nudge you to get petted. She loves belly rubs and will lay on her back on the floor next to you for a long period of time for a good belly rub. Also, given the chance she enjoys sitting/snuggling next to you on the sofa.
Missy hasn’t shown much interest in dog toys other than Nylabones, other dog bones and tennis balls. She likes to chew on the bones and carry around the tennis balls. Occasionally she’ll play tug with her foster brother.
Missy knows sit, down, stay and roll over. She is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations and currently on heartworm and flea and tick preventatives. Missy is fosteredin North Liberty, Iowa. If you might be intereted in making Missy a part of your family, contact Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com.
