Meet Rugby (#0159), a whole lot of Aussie love in a tiny little package! Rugby is an adorable 8 pound red mini Aussie. He is a one and a half year old neutered male.
Beware…once you see him and cuddle with him (he will tuck his little nose right along side your neck if you let him)…he is irresistable! Rugby didn’t have the best start to his life, so he has a few things he is working on (hey, nobody’s perfect, right?). Rugby is not currently comfortable pottying on leash, but he is slowly making progress on this and has now gone a few times on leash. He much prefers to potty off leash in a secure area. He has not had any accidents in his crate since coming to our house, nor has he had any accidents on the floor. Rugby is fearful of small children to the point of hiding from them. We are currently still testing to see if this is an issue that can be lessened over a long period of time with careful exposure, but we can for certain say that we feel it would be best if he went to a home without young children.
Rugby currently is fostered in a home with four other dogs and two cats, and he goes daily with his foster mom to doggie daycare where he interacts with 14 other dogs at a time that are sized from 5 pounds up to 35 pounds. He will stand up for himself if another dog gets pushy, but he has been getting along well with all of the other dogs, and with the cats as well. He and his foster brother, a 12 pound sheltie, have begun to enjoy chasing each other around the house.
Rugby is up to date on all vaccinations, and is currently on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives.
He is being fostered in Cedar Rapids. Contact Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com with questions and for more information. While we welcome your questions about this dog, all adopters are required to complete a Protege Adoption Application before being considered to adopt a Protege dog; our adoption fee is $200.
Ace (Protege #0162) is a 5 month old red-tri Aussie puppy. He has a desire to please people and learns new things quickly. Ace has learned how to hit it (touching his nose to your hand) and how to spin left to right. Ace also knows how to sit, lie down, and fetch. He is still working on housebreaking. He is very good at going potty outside as long as you take him out often. Ace is kennel trained. If you get a treat out and ask him to go to his kennel he will go in right away.
Ace has been exposed to a lot of different dogs and has yet to meet a dog that he doesn’t get a long with. He is very respectful towards the other dogs and will give them space if they need it.
Ace really seems to enjoy the water. In the last week or so Ace has learned to fetch a toy from the water and give it to his foster mom to be thrown in again. He is a very well-rounded puppy, ready to please and to learn from his new owners.
Ace is current on vaccinations and will be neutered before he is adopted. He is being fostered in Coralville, Iowa.
If you think Ace might be a good match, please contact Jayne at mcjayne@mcquillen.org. While we welcome your questions about this dog, all adopters are required to complete a Protege Adoption Application before being considered to adopt a Protege dog; our adoption fee is $200.

She will be doing all her puppy shots, and will be learning her sign language lessons in the coming weeks.

Haggi who’s name means festive is a 2 old red merle Australian Shepherd mix. Haggi is a typical enthusiastic, energetic velcro dog. She is reserved at first with people she doesn’t know but a little sweet talk and a treat quickly wins her over. She is very quiet and good in her crate. She loves other dogs but sometimes can play a little rough – she is OK with dog savvy cats, but likes to chase them. Haggi loves to run outside and keep busy but she also settles down nicely once inside and her favorite place to nap is laying next to her foster mom. She waits at the door before going outside and walks well on leash. Haggi is a little thin right now but her optimum weight would be around 40 lbs.
Haggi is being fostered in the Chicago area. To adopt Haggi complete an application at New Spirit. Reference NS 0644

Epoc, know as Shadow is a striking blue merle Australian Shepherd who came to us with her brother. She was adopted by a great family, she will need surgery and we would like to help off set those costs. If … Continue reading
Kernel is a red merle male Australian Shepherd, around 1 year old, who came into rescue with his sister Epoc (Shadow) and both must have had excellent socialization. Kernel will politely greet strangers and expect a pat on the head, he then runs back to his foster pack of 3 other Aussies. So Kernel is learning all the right things about what is expected of an Australian Shepherd.
Kernel enjoys other dogs, ignores cats, and is good with children. He loves car rides and crates well and walks on a leash just fine.
He does have a strange protrusion that sticks out from his Aussie rear-end, we are told it’s a tail, something common in those other breeds, he seems fine with it and actually will wave it from side to side to show just how happy and secure he is.
Kernel is being fostered in the Chicago area. To adopt this unique red merle Aussie, complete an application at New Spirit today. Reference NS 0625.
Jager is a healthy young 50lb. male red bi Australian Shepherd around 2 years old. He is loves being close to his “owner”. He has been trained to sit, lie, and knows the meaning of words such as “no” and “down”. He does well in a crate and is not food aggressive (food is out all day for him, no issues with the other dog in the home). He walks well on a leash and does not pull or try to “take off” after other dogs.
He has had no problems with other family dogs, he plays the border collie in his foster home and ignores a Pomeranian. He pays little attention to cats unless they frighten him, then he barks at them. He is well behaved at the dog park and no evidence of aggression besides normal play wrestling with other dogs.
Jager rides well in cars with a reminder that he cannot sit in the front seat. Like most Aussie’s he needs an “alpha”-owner from time to time to remind him of his place in the family pack. He does not like being approached by strange males with objects in their hands, and does not like fireworks or loud booming sounds.
Jager is being fostered in the Peoria Area. Complete an application at New Spirit today. Reference NS 0618

We are aiming for a remake on our mobile version in the next month or 2 so hang in their. For now we do offer a mobile version but it seems clunking.

That will be my next question to Aunt Aussie, how to restrict your Aussie from the computer and texting!
Maiya is around 2 years old, she is a red merle female Aussie. Maiya is a little shy at first but warms up very quickly. She is crated during the day while her foster parents are at work and, for now, at night. She is quiet, calm and content in her crate and will enter the crate on the “in” command. She is a polite little lady in the car and will just sit and enjoy the scenery. She walks respectful on a leash and understands basic obedience commands: sit, down, stay and come although, come is still a bit intermittent. She stood and tolerated her bath like a trooper and loves to be brushed. You can pick up her feet, touch her tail, look in her ears and mouth without issue. She is a laid back eater, not greedy or possessive and takes treats very gently. She gets along well with both dogs and cats. She will play Frisbee and catch but doesn’t always bring them back. She sometimes runs by you hoping you will chase her instead. She is considerate of the house and will go potty outside but she needs to be let out often as she doesn’t yet know how to tell you she has to go. Maiya is quick to learn and very willing to try anything for praise. She is a typical velcro Aussie that will follow you anywhere just to be near you. She hates thunder and really loud noises but doesn’t get crazy just nervous and will pace. She would be in your lap if you let her. The foster family has a 2 paw rule when your sitting – 2 paws on me 2 paws on the floor. Which she is more than happy to respect. The vet estimates her at about 2 years old and she weighs 36 pounds.
Donate today to help cover the costs for Maiya’s Heartworm treatment, and all the New Spirit Aussies in need of medical treatment.
Maiya is currently being treated for heartworm and will be ready to go to a forever home after she completes her treat plan. You are welcome to inquire about her and even meet her, as she loves people and would love to meet you. Complete and application at New Spirit 4 Aussie Rescue. Reference NS 0621

She also does AMAZING in crates, she sleeps in there at night and does just fine. She plays great with other dogs. Eli will need to be taught to share her food and she is learning.
She likes kids, because she loves everyone, she is a very lovable dog and does have the “velcro” trait. She will follow her foster parents around the house and is always nearby. She has a wonderful up-beat personality and is very willing to learn and be a great friend.

Meet Parker, a 14 month old, red-tri neutered male that currently weighs 38 pounds. He’s a Velcro Aussie that loves his family, making him a good guard dog that will bark at strangers. He’s a quick learner and has the cutest rump wiggle prance when he’s happy. And when he lays down, he does so on his stomach with his back legs sprawled out behind him. So cute! Playing catch is his favorite thing to do in the whole world! He is completely crate-trained and house-broke. He knows sit, down, wait (waits before being let outside, out of crate, before eating, etc., touch (hand touch), up (he has to have permission before getting on the bed or couch) and off (sometimes he’ll jump on the bed or couch without permission but follows the off command well), leave it, take it, drop it, pee, ride (jumps in car), shake (right), paw (left), and he rings a bell that is attached to the door when he needs or wants to go outside! He’s good with come but not 100% compliant. If there’s something running from him, it’s hard for him to obey the come command every time.
Parker does like to herd and will occasionally chase cars if left outside by himself. He’s been in a home with another dog, 2 cats, and 2 young children (5 & 8 years). He gets along great with the other dog and one of the cats. The other cat, he loves to antagonize and chase her if she runs, but has never hurt her. He will herd/nip the kids when they are on their bicycles and sometimes when they are running together in the yard. He can also be a bit of a thief, but if you call him on it, he’ll drop whatever it is and act like he didn’t do anything wrong. He’s not crazy about baths but he’ll stand for them in the tub and not jump out. He has no food aggressions and does great when touching his body parts.
Parker is in west-central Illinois, where Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri meet. To learn more about Parker please email AussieRescue of IL for more information.
It is now going on a month almost and Rio is still missing. His family has been out daily looking and spotting him, he still has his leash attached and numerous attempts at capture. We applaud his family for trying everything they can to get him home. And now we at Tales of Aussie Rescue ask for your help. If you have a free day to drive to the Rock Cut State Park area. There are live traps set, so please don’t feed him as he needs to become hungry to be captured. Also if you are out helping to look, don’t call his name or attempt to chase him, instead call the Winnebago Animal Control and tell them you have spotted him and you will keep track of his movements. Possibly this will allow them time to arrive and if possible capture him. Their number is 815-319-4100, tell thme you have spotted Rio the black bi Australian Shepherd that has been missing, give your location and your phone number, then please call Hal 815-670-9962 and mention you have spotted Rio, this way we can keep track of Rio and his location.
Below are updated pictures of Rio and a map of his last known location. He was seen off Harlem Rd and Woodland Way, back within the subdivision. We really need Rio home and back with his family.
