TommyBoy

Tommy is a 7 month old blue merle Aussie boy with one blue eye and one brown eye.  Tommy’s got floppy ears and a sweet personality. When he’s told to ‘sit’, his butt hits the floor immediately!  He gets along well with other dogs and while he chases the cat, he doesn’t appear to want to harm him.  Tommy would make a fabulous all around family pet!
Unfortunately, Tommy broke his leg on June 30th and had surgery to repair it on July 1st.  He’s expected to recover fully and doesn’t seem to notice that he’s only able to use three legs right now.  Tommy is a spunky boy even as a tripod, so his energy level will likely skyrocket once he’s healed up.

Tommy likes playing with Frisbees and tug toys. He would make a great Rally O dog, or maybe even an agility or disc dog in the future.  He weighs in at about 33lbs and when mature, will be on the smaller side for a male Aussie.  Tommy is fostered in Blooming Prairie, MN.  He won’t be available for adoption till mid-August but please fill out an application now if you’re interested.  Email frankieblue@ymail.com if you’re interested in Tommy!

Pax ~ Adopted July 2010!

Pax has done a complete 180 since coming into his foster home.  He is still a belly-over Velcro puppy, but he’s gotten bolder and is just happy to make you happy!  His Aussie grin rarely disappears.  Pax has learned to ‘sit’, ”lay down’ and ‘leave it’.  He is great with other dogs and his foster dad is doing a great job of introducing him to new people and situations.  He has met nearly 100 new people so far in his socializing and loved every one of them!  He doesnt pay any mind to cats or small animals and would probably do great in any family situation.
Pax is pretty much housebroken and is trusted to be loose in the house.  He does great in a fenced yard with a 4ft chainlink fence.  His new favorite game is playing ‘bobbing for apples’ with a ball in the kiddie pool!  He has not ‘spoken’ a word or offered a bark in more than a week and is the gentlest of pups.  He loves to cuddle on the couch and just be.
He’s a very mellow, easy going dog and we dont expect that to change. If you’re looking for a ‘low key’ Aussie, Pax is your guy.  Pax has been neutered and he is ready to go home with YOU!  But be careful: If you go to meet him, you won’t leave without him. He is an instant charmer and you’ll fall head over heels!  Pax is being fostered in Austin, MN. Email frankieblue@ymail.com for more info on Pax!

EZ Ryder ~ Adopted! August 2010

EZ Ryder is a 1 year old blue merle Australian Shepherd mix. He is a friendly guy who loves to be with his people.
Ryder could be deemed the perfect dog.  He’s housebroken, crate trained, as well as quiet through the night in his crate.  He is fabulous with young children (is fostering with a 1yo and a 3yo) and is great with other animals.  EZ is learning to play Frisbee and with a ball.  With a little work, this guy could probably compete.   He loves to play with toys and has a good retrieve.  EZ is also food motivated.
EZ Ryder knows how to sit and come, and is working on shake and down.  He kennels fine in the car, laying down to enjoy the ride.  He walks well on a leash also.
If you’re looking for an awesome, beautiful, friendly, social companion, Ryder is your guy!  Email frankieblue@ymail.com for more info on EZ!
EZ Ryder is being fostered in Belle Plaine, MN

ADOPTED: Rugby (Protege #0159) red Bi Australian Shepherd Puppy

Rugby (Protege #0159)

Rugby (Protege #0159)

Meet Rugby (#0159), a whole lot of Aussie love in a tiny little package! Rugby is an adorable 8 pound red mini Aussie. He is a one and a half year old neutered male.

Beware…once you see him and cuddle with him (he will tuck his little nose right along side your neck if you let him)…he is irresistable! Rugby didn’t have the best start to his life, so he has a few things he is working on (hey, nobody’s perfect, right?). Rugby is not currently comfortable pottying on leash, but he is slowly making progress on this and has now gone a few times on leash. He much prefers to potty off leash in a secure area. He has not had any accidents in his crate since coming to our house, nor has he had any accidents on the floor. Rugby is fearful of small children to the point of hiding from them. We are currently still testing to see if this is an issue that can be lessened over a long period of time with careful exposure, but we can for certain say that we feel it would be best if he went to a home without young children.

Rugby currently is fostered in a home with four other dogs and two cats, and he goes daily with his foster mom to doggie daycare where he interacts with 14 other dogs at a time that are sized from 5 pounds up to 35 pounds. He will stand up for himself if another dog gets pushy, but he has been getting along well with all of the other dogs, and with the cats as well. He and his foster brother, a 12 pound sheltie, have begun to enjoy chasing each other around the house.

Rugby is up to date on all vaccinations, and is currently on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives.

He is being fostered in Cedar Rapids. Contact Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com with questions and for more information. While we welcome your questions about this dog, all adopters are required to complete a Protege Adoption Application before being considered to adopt a Protege dog; our adoption fee is $200.

ADOPTED: Ace (Protege #0162) Red Bi Australian Shepherd Iowa

Ace (Protege #0162)

Ace (Protege #0162)

Ace (Protege #0162) is a 5 month old red-tri Aussie puppy. He has a desire to please people and learns new things quickly. Ace has learned how to hit it (touching his nose to your hand) and how to spin left to right. Ace also knows how to sit, lie down, and fetch. He is still working on housebreaking. He is very good at going potty outside as long as you take him out often. Ace is kennel trained. If you get a treat out and ask him to go to his kennel he will go in right away.

Ace has been exposed to a lot of different dogs and has yet to meet a dog that he doesn’t get a long with. He is very respectful towards the other dogs and will give them space if they need it.

Ace really seems to enjoy the water. In the last week or so Ace has learned to fetch a toy from the water and give it to his foster mom to be thrown in again. He is a very well-rounded puppy, ready to please and to learn from his new owners.

Ace is current on vaccinations and will be neutered before he is adopted. He is being fostered in Coralville, Iowa.

If you think Ace might be a good match, please contact Jayne at mcjayne@mcquillen.org. While we welcome your questions about this dog, all adopters are required to complete a Protege Adoption Application before being considered to adopt a Protege dog; our adoption fee is $200.
