Meet Wealcan, a 3 year old red merle Australian Shepherd who was shot and was saved by a veterinary clinic in the Effingham Illinois area. Wealcan is a very friendly Aussie, who likes other dogs, and gets along well with cats. Keep an eye out for this gentle fellow coming to New Spirit.

Red Tri, 3 yr old, Altered, Australian Shepherd missing in Inwood Iowa area 09-18-10 evening around 7:30PM. They have alerted the Lyons County Sheriff’s Office (712) 472-8300 and alerting the veterinarians in the area on Monday.
His name was Kody/Kodiak he was rescued from a shelter 2 yrs ago. He has a distinct defect in his skull and it can be felt on his forehead as it is concaved in that area. They feel he was stolen as the husband has been offered money for him in the past from a particular identity and it is not like their dog to go anywhere without them and they has repeatedly told the person he is not for sale! (would you sell your child?)
He was out of their sight for 30 minutes with two other dogs of the cattle facilities and hasn’t been seen since, and the other dogs are still there, and they just want to alert people should you see or hear of a very large intelligent red tri to please notify them.

Attached two pictures a winter picture when his coat is darker and a current summer picture.
Gunnar Becker is a wiggly mini red tri Australian Shepherd who weighs around 30-35 pounds. His foster mom has nicknamed this mini red aussie Mr. Wiggles as he would loss a pair of pants if he wore pants since he wiggles his butt so much. Gunnar came to rescue with the need for a bath and a deep cleaning and had lots of mats and fleas from being a stray and finally being caught by the dog police Now that Gunnar has had a bath he is really soft and mat free, and flea free to
Gunnar is very affectionate and loves to snuggle in bed and on the couch. Gunnar is learning how to walk on a leash and go into his crate. Once in his crate he is quiet and will lay down. Gunnar likes to be outside and will chase his foster brothers around the yard. He also likes bones and toys. Gunnar loves people and other dogs, even kids! He doesn’t mind cats either.
Gunnar likes car rides, although he isn’t fond of getting into the car, but once he is in and moving he really enjoys it. Gunnar is almost 100% housebroken. He is still learning to trust people and will need someone with patience and the desire to show this little red tri that people are good to hang with.

Tyson or “Ty”, is a beautiful little shortie who LOVES attention. He has beautiful markings including his eyes which both have flecks of blue in them. He weighs about 35 pounds and has a full tail. Ty is a lover, he follows his foster parents around the house and loves to snuggle.
He’s not destructive at all, and loves his “babies” (toys) and carries them all around and brings them to bed with him. He is almost 100% potty trained, only a few accidents have happened, but he asks to go out and does his business. At night, he does not sleep in a crate, he sleeps with his foster parents on his doggie bed, and roams freely amongst the house. He actually does better that way because he’s not confined to a cage and doesn’t cry or whine at night. He sleeps all through the night and is excited to wake up and start his day with you. He is crated during the day when his foster parents aren’t home and he does just fine.
He rides amazing in the car and walks good on a leash. As for other dogs, Ty loves other dogs and loves to play, but we have noticed that when there is food, or toys around he will steal it from other dogs, and can be sometimes aggressive about it. That is his only flaw, other than that he is a bundle of energy and cant wait to find his forever family and home to give him the love and attention he craves.

Meet Leine, a beautiful Blue Merle Australian Shepherd, coming to New Spirit in the next 2 weeks. Leinie is not an Aussie we would suggest for a home with children as his herd drive is very hi and he seems to want them all corralled in his own way.
Stay tuned for more on Leinie in the next few weeks.
Meet Oran, a 1 year old red merle australian shepherd male, who weighs around 45 pounds. Oran is one of those happy, well adjusted Aussies that we get that loves the world and everything about it and everyone in it.
Oran is currently acting like a Frat Boy as the neighbor so adoringly calls him because he likes to party all the time. Oran generates lots of attention in public because he is so handsome, since his coat was shaved coming into rescue many wonder if he is an Aussie, and he is. He was left in an old farm house to fend for himself, gum and cigarettes were found in his hair, and he was still a very open and friendly boy when found.
Oran gets along with the other dogs in his foster home and ignores the family cat (who takes the occasional swipe at him) He loves tennis balls and frisbees, his foster mom says he has not chewed anything in the home.
He walks on a leash but needs work, could be his puppy past is still lingering with him, he is currently being house broken as he was left in the farm house for a while before coming to rescue. He is also learning his commands and seems to have a thing about opening doors, with his body, that is being addressed, must be that frat boy thing.
Oran loves to swim, and loves to sleep in the middle of the bed. Oran has one brown and one blue eye.

Woodford is a handsome blue merle australian shepherd male around handsom 2-3 years old. Woodford loves car rides and playing with the other dogs in his foster home.
Woodford weighs 61 pounds and has brown eyes. He is a fan of hiking in the woods – does well both on and off leash – and wading in local ponds to cool off. Woodford also enjoys snuggling with you on the couch! Woodford will ignore the cat, unless it starts to run from him, then the chase is on!! He does not seem to want to hurt the cat, just herd it. He is moderately interested in tennis balls and frisbees, and prefers to herd the other dogs in his foster home while they play fetch .
Due to his high herding drive, he is best suited to a home without small children. He is housebroken , knows several commands including sit, shake and high-five and has even learned to open some doors by himself!!

Meet Azel, a 9 year old Australian shepherd who came to us at Aussie Rescue IL from a comment at our Ottawa Bark in the Park, I was manning the booth and was told of an Aussie that was found on the side of the road, he had been hit by a car, and he had suffered facial injuries, bad enough that surgery was required to save his jaw, it was wired back into place. Azel survived that incident and was recovering in a rescue in the Ottawa/Peru area, Illinois Valley Animal Rescue.
Chris contacted me and told me she had this brave Australian Shepherd, a blue merle with a tail, and she was hoping a rescue like ours, we specialize in the Aussie, could take him and help him find a forever home, someone that would treat him like a new puppy. All our adopters treat all our Aussies like a new born pup, a real member of the family. So with IVAR covering what was already a $500.00 vet/surgery bill we took him into our rescue with New Spirit 4 Aussie Rescue.
Azel had been with his new foster mom for a few weeks and she was alarmed that he would drink lots of water and then “pee a river” which she as a trained vet-technician felt it could be a sign of things to check. After a full blood-work-up, it was discovered that Azel has kidney disease, which is going to require he eat a special diet and take a supplement to give him a life that he could finish out with normal urinary functions and a normal life span, without these 2 items, he would more then likely endue passing away or worse we would have to bring his life to a final chapter, and we want him to have all the chances he deserves, he did survive a car accident.
So we are asking for your help to offset his monthly costs while he is in foster care until we find a family that feels an Aussie like Azel belongs in their home. So open you wallet or purse, and donate something to Azel so he can have a long life and a chance to play with other dogs and his future family.
Charcoal is a 10 year old Aussie/Norwegian Elk Hound mix. Both breeds can be stunning and the combination certainly is! He resembles a gentle gray wolf and gets along with every dog he meets. Charcoal is a mellow boy, and weighs about 50 pounds. Like any perfect gentleman, he is completely reliable in the house. He is indifferent toward cats, but does notice and like children very much.

Do you have Faith in your life, Faith came to our rescue after being found as a stray, she had been shot with a shotgun. She still loves the human race after that horrible incident and it shows just how much she lives up to her name Faith.
Faith is good with other dogs, she will ride in a car but does pant a lot but her foster mom is working on her and letting her know that the car is a great thing to enjoy and take for little trips. Faith also ignores cats and is respectful of other little dogs in her home. She does like to “rocket” around the yard when it’s playtime.

Spike is around 4 years old and is your typical Velcro Aussie. What is not typical for an Aussie is Spikes low drive. Instead of herding, agility or fly-ball, Spike would prefer a little game of fetch, a bit of gentle tug and come inside to be petted and loved.
He likes long walks and just being with people. He knows all his basic commands, is not food or toy possessive and loves to ride in the car.
Spike is completely house broken and has wonderful house manners. He is calm and quiet in his crate and feels very safe there. He loves to be brushed and accepted a bath very well.
Spike is a very sweet boy and would like nothing more than to be a companion and pet. Spike would do best in a home with out other dogs or with a very docile female. He is currently in a foster home with a cat and is indifferent to him.
Spike is currently living it large with his foster mom and dad in Ingleside IL. To meet and adopt this star, complete an application at New Spirit 4 Aussie Rescue. Reference NS 0728
Clement is a 1 and a half year old blue merle male, weighs around 45 pounds, who is blind. But that doesn’t stop him from seeing the world and all those that love him and why he is here. Clement sees his fellow Aussies in his foster home by greeting them each morning with a gentle kiss.
Clement has a special path he takes each day, laid out as throw rugs by his foster mom to get outside to potty. Clement is housebroken, loves car rides and walks well on a leash with you guiding him.
Clement loves to cuddle and be petted, he also finds his crate to be his place to hang when he wants to relax, as he is most comfortable there.

She was found as a stray on the side of the road, she was horribly matted and very skinny. She is a perfect lady, she rides perfect in a car, walks excellent on a leash and uses the outdoors to go potty.
Abbie gets along with other dogs just fine and could care less about a cat. She is probably a little deaf, but sees fine.
Abbie would be the perfect Aussie for someone that is retired, lives alone and is looking for that perfect, dedicated, devoted companion. She would be fine anywhere, we just think she deserves to be the star of the house and get all the attention she can handle as she has lived a long time and is now without that forever home, plus she needs someone that will never let her out of their sight so she knows she is loved.

Azel is very easy going and laid back, and even goes with his foster mom every day to work at the animal hospital. He is a great greeter! However, he does have a slight fear of men. He seems to be ok around women, but puts his eyes down when a man is in the room, but is getting better with this. Azel is being fostered in St Paul, MN. We are pleased to introduce Musashi (Protege #0168). Musashi is called Muus (pronounced Moose) for short, and his name means Warrior Spirit in Japanese. The name’s not necessarily appropriate, as Muus isn’t all that much of a warrior — but the moose part fits, for now at least.
Muus was turned into rescue by his owner, who must move and is unable to take him. He is an extremely handsome neutered 4-year-old blue merle male Aussie with very striking markings.
Muus is extremely overweight; when he came into our program, he weighed 93 lbs. and his proper weight is around 55-60 lbs., so he is on a strict diet and we’re making sure he gets plenty of exercise. He also had an extremely long and not very well-tended coat (as you can see in the first pic above), and because of the summer heat and his weight, he suffered a good deal with the coat and matting, so he got a special trip to the groomers — and we were astonished to see the great beauty underneath all that hair! His coat is so pretty and soft, and he loves so much to be petted and scratched, he feels just like a Gund Teddy Bear.
Muus is a nearly perfect dog and he is going to make someone an awesome friend and companion. He is happy to be active and enjoys walks (needs some work with his leash manners), will chase tennis balls, and likes to tug. He really likes to go up and down the stairs, so we are working on a bit of fetch that way as part of his exercise routine. Here are a couple of short videos of Muus pre-haircut:
Muus has very good food manners, he doesn’t complain a bit about getting lots less than he is used to. He waits patiently to be served and isn’t defensive about his food. He takes treats gently. Muus has never spent time in a crate in his previous life, but goes in willingly and has no problem being crated while his foster mom is at work. He is also completely fine uncrated and left loose in the house. He loves going for car rides and sits quietly in the back looking out the window — sticking his head out if it’s open, of course! He doesn’t often get on the furniture, though does get on the couch, and we think perhaps as he loses weight and can jump up more easily, he’ll enjoy these soft spots if he’s allowed to be there. He does like to snuggle next to his foster mom on the couch and rest his head on her legs — he will be a GREAT dog to have in the winter!
Muus has a cheerful attitude and is beginning to enjoy playing with some of the toys around the house. He comes when called and knows sit; as with most Aussies, he wants to be where his people are. Muus is completely housebroken and is generally a quiet guy.
The one problem Muus has so far is that he does not greet new dogs well. Though he has settled in with his foster brother and sister okay, he does get into occasional tiffs with them, so we are recommending that he go to a home where he’ll be the only dog. He does better interacting with another dog who isn’t interested in playing — his preference is to have dogs leave him alone. We think he is insecure and undersocialized from a life where he didn’t ever meet other dogs, and it is a difficult adjustment for him.
Muus is a total human love-bug, though. He loves all people and is friendly and fun. He hasn’t met many kids since he’s been with us, though we don’t think children would be a problem.
We would prefer that Muus go to a family that will be dedicated to keeping him active and continuing his diet; he will be much happier and healthier when he gets down to his ideal weight.
Muus is current on all vaccinations and is ready for his forever home. He is being fostered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. If you might be interested in learning more about Muus, please email Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com. While we welcome your questions about this dog, all adopters are required to complete a Protege Adoption Application before being considered to adopt a Protege dog; our adoption fee is $200.

Colleen our Bloomington volunteer who I take total advantage of when ever possible was again asked to drive from Bloomington to Effingham Il and rescue 3 little Aussies I was told about last week. 1 was a red tri and the other 2 are the cool blue merles that are black and grey, all have things that wag on their butts! I guess they are tails, must be something new for those Aussies that are into new fashion accessories.
Meet Tyson, named because when he got into a fight with Cookie, I guess he went for an ear. The good tasting Cookie is fine and Tyson was asked to sit in his corner.
Cookie is a super cute little female who is named as such because of just how sweet and warm she is to people and other dogs.
Merlot is the shyer of the 3 and told Colleen she wanted to sleep in the bed of their pickup truck for the night.
These Aussies will be placed in foster homes for evaluation and their shots and spayed and neutered, so they will be a few weeks before they are ready for adoption, keep an eye out for them.
