ADOPTED: NS 0784 Riggs Red Bi Australian Shepherd Male Minnesota

Riggs is a 2 year old mahogany red bi purebred Aussie male. He is wonderful with other dogs and is so sweet, he just loves people. Riggs had some eye trauma at some point in his life causing him to lose his right eye. But he’s on the mend now and still has perfect sight out of his beautiful left eye! Riggs has remained calm and even tempered throughout his eye ordeal despite the discomfort he must have been in. Riggs is not good with farm poultry. He’s got a lot of drive and would probably rock at agility or rally obedience, or even herding! Riggs will be fostered in St Paul, MN.

ADOPTED: NS 0649 DOZER Red Tri Aussie/Border Collie mix Minnesota

This rough and tumble boy is Dozer. He is a happy Aussie/Border Collie mix puppy with a zest for life! Though he’s growing up to look like a Chocolate Lab. At four months and 35 pounds, he should be about 50+ pounds when mature. We expect he will fluff out a bit, too, and grow a longer coat.as he reaches the 18 month mark, but he’ll probably always be on the shorter-coated side compared to an purebred Aussie.

[frame_center src="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/dozer2-400x266.jpg" href="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/dozer2.jpg"]NS 0649 DOZER[/frame_center]

Dozer is a typical puppy–klutzy, loveable, and always ready to play! Dozer needs a family who is ready for typical puppy energy and hijinks. Dozer loves it when you run your hands down the carpet making scratching noises.

Dozer is walking much better on a leash now than when he arrived, but leash walking and energetic puppies don’t always go hand in hand so additional work as he grows will be needed. This boy will work for food! Teaching him to sit and some other basic is so easy when you have a treat in your hand. Dozer is currently working on “leave it”, but it is just so hard!

[frame_center src="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/dozer1-400x302.jpg" href="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/dozer1.jpg"]NS 0649 DOZER[/frame_center]

Dozer is well on his way to being potty trained. He has the concept, but sometimes, he can’t hold it all night long, not too unusual for a 4 month old pup. He will have a little excited piddling from time to time, too, but should grow out of that. To adopt Dozer complete an application at New Spirit 4 Aussie Rescue. Reference NS 0649

ADOPTED: NS 0781 ROBODOG (Louie) 0781 Black Tri Aussie Mix Minnesota

Robodog is an 8 month old playful, loving, funny, Aussie mix that weighs about 30 pounds. Robodog will melt your heart with his unconditional love for you. He is a very energetic guy that loves playing any type of activity, just as long as he is spending time with you. Robodog loves kids and has never showed any sign of being irritated or wanting to nip. He is great with small children as well. He plays well with other dogs as long as he can get a chance to know them first. He’s great with dogs smaller than him, but larger dogs intimidate him I think.

[frame_center src="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/louie.jpg" href="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/louie.jpg"]NS 0781 ROBODOG (Louie)[/frame_center]

Robodog is mostly house broke but does have accidents every now and then. He loves the out doors, chasing chickens, cats and pretty much anything he can get to run from him, but he will not hurt them! He just wants to play.

Robodog listens very well for being a pup and will stop on a dime if you ask! He is a very good boy who is extremely smart and full of love. Robodog will make a great addition whether you have a family or live by yourself. Robodog is fostered in Lyle, MN. To adopt Louie complete an application at New Spirit 4 Aussie Rescue. She is a double merle, which means that both of her parents were merle Aussies. The result of this breeding left Siloam with gorgeous white fur and without any hearing. But her stunning blue eyes can see just fine and she’s a happy, healthy, normal girl! She’s got some pretty red merling spotted over her coat.

Si’s best friend is the Rat Terrier in her foster home! They wrestle and play until they wear each other out. Si is very intelligent, very athletic and loves the water! She would do well in agility if you had a wish to do so. Her foster mom is working on teaching her some hand signals. She’s a very happy, silly girl with a puppy personality. She’s very sweet and loves to cuddle and give kisses. She’s great with everybody, loves kids and views the world as her personal playground, and everybody in it must pet her!

[frame_center src="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/si1-400x330.jpg" href="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/si1.jpg"]NS 0732 Siloam[/frame_center]

Siloam had mange when she arrived, but she’s since been treated and her gorgeous white fur is growing back in the spots where it was gone. Deaf Aussies are no different from any other Aussie and can actually be quite a bit sweeter. Siloam’s foster mom has never had a deaf dog before and they have settled in together with extreme ease, which just proves that Si is an easy girl. She can be a handful if she’s not exercised daily. She likes going for walks and playing with toys! She is good in a crate and almost housetrained. Siloam is fostering in Carlson, MN. To adopt Siloam, complete an application at New Spirit 4 Aussie Rescue. Reference NS 0732.

ADOPTED: NS 0738 SCOTTY Aussie Mix Black Tri Male Australian Shepherd Minnesota

Scotty is a 6yo Aussie/ACD mix. He’s got the handsome coloring of an ACD but the long, super soft fur and tail of an Aussie! He is approximately 55lbs, but his fur makes him look bigger than he actually is. Scotty is a sweet, gentle hearted boy. He lost his home through no fault of his own. His elderly owner could no longer care for him and was forced to give him to rescue. He loves people of all ages and wags his tail upon greeting.

[frame_center src="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/scooter.jpg" href="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/scooter.jpg"]NS 0758 Scotty[/frame_center]

Scotty is good with other dogs and appears to be afraid of the 2 cats he’s currently fostering with. He just ignores them and lets them go on their merry way. He’s a low energy guy who is happy with a walk a day and lots of loving. He bonds relatively quickly and will be a great family dog. Scotty is housebroken and has wonderful house manners. He likes to sleep on the bed/couch/dog bed or any soft, padded place. He is respectful in the house and doesn‚Äôt need to be crated. He’s quite reliable.

We believe that Scotty’s previous life was very relaxed and slow. He didn’t get any exercise which has made him a bit stiff. Daily walks and good food should restore his natural vigor for life. He was a bit anxious and heartbroken upon leaving his home, but after a couple of days he brightened right up and his foster mom says he is a wonderful, perfect gentleman. Scotty is being fostered in Mankato, MN. To adopt Scotty complete an application at New Spirit 4 Aussie Rescue. Reference NS 0738

If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles.

If you can eat the same food every day and be grateful for it.

If you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time.

NS 0731 Merlot

NS 0731 Merlot

Merlot is an adult Red Tri female Australian Shepherd who weighs around 40 pounds and around 6 or 7 years old. Merlot is a very affectionate girl and will shower you with kisses all day long if you let her. She is housebroken and is currently regrowing her coat as she was full of mats and tangles from her stay in the shelter.

Merlot will politely greet strangers and will embrace new situations if she knows you are there with her. Merlot plays well with adult dogs, but is a bit overwhelmed by puppies that have that get in your face habit and will let them know with a gentle growl. Merlot seems to be best in a home without cats as she will herd them into a corner and not back down.

Wealcan enjoys other dogs and gets along well with them. Wealcan loves people and is always at the feet of his foster dad. Wealcan is one of the more low energy Aussies we have so if you are not into walking a lot or like to have a TV buddy, well Wealcan is just that guy, but he will happily go at your pace. NS 0185 Leinie

NS 0185 Leinie

Leinie is a striking blue merle Australian Shepherd who weighs around 45 pounds, and is around 3 years old. Leinie was surrender to us because he has that Aussie herd drive to him and is not a good choice for a family with children under 8 years old as he will try to herd and nip them to a location. This is typical with any herding breed dog, and Aussies are definite herders.

Leinie walks good on a leash with correction and could use some better lessons in leash walking. Leinie has the typical energy level as he is always patrolling the backyard and on the move. Leinie gets along well with other dogs, and seems to be willing to share his toys. He is not a good cat in a home person, so a no cat home is recommend. Leinie is housebroken.

Toby (#0167) Blue Merle Male Australian Shepherd Protege Rescue Iowa

Toby (#0167)

Toby (#0167)

Meet Toby (#0167)! Toby is a handsome 6 year old neutered blue merle male Aussie with cute little prick ears. He was turned into the rescue by his owner who is moving and is unable to take him.

Toby was overweight when he came into our program. He weighed 41 pounds and now weighs about 34 pounds. He should weigh somewhere between 25-30 pounds. He is on a strict diet and is getting a lot of exercise which he is ok with.

Toby LOVES to play fetch. The first thing that he does when he goes outside is pick up a tennis ball, because he is ready to play! He will also catch the ball. Toby knows various commands like sit, stay, come, wait, and roll over, as well as paw and other paw (shake). You can see from his videos that he can catch the ball and has a pretty cute roll over. All of the tennis balls that were located inside Toby’s foster home have been put away, since he would really like to play ball in the house as well.

Toby (#0167)

Toby (#0167)

Toby enjoys being outside. For the most part he is quiet outside unless a stranger walks by; he’ll bark at them but will stop when he knows it is ok. He doesn’t even bark at the neighbor dogs. They’ll bark at him and he looks at them like “what is your problem?” Thankfully he is not a digger outside either.

Toby (#0167)

Toby (#0167)

When his foster mom is away from home Toby is crated. He’ll go in if led into the crate, but would rather not go in there. He is quiet in the crate unless he can hear you, and then he’ll bark. If you give him a firm “Quiet!” he’ll quiet down. He was not crated in his original home and is fine left out.

Toby gets along with other dogs but mostly wants to play ball and doesn’t really pay attention to other dogs very much. He enjoys going for walks and is good on-leash. He recently walked in the Paws for a Cause dog walk in Iowa city and did really well with so many people and other dogs at the event. He would sniff a few of the dogs, but was mostly interested in the humans, as he really wanted to be petted.

Though Toby is really focused on playing ball when he is outside (if there are balls available), when he is inside he settles down and will lie on the floor next to you. He is a pretty easy going little guy, very sweet and will give light kisses on occasion. We would recommend that balls are not available to Toby all the time, it’s probably better if his humans control when it is ball play time — and tennis balls are very abrasive on dogs’ teeth if they chew on them a lot.

Here are a couple of short videos of Toby:

Toby catching the ball

Toby rolling over

Toby is up to date on his vaccinations and is currently on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. He is being fostered near Iowa City. Additional photos are available. If you might be interested in learning more about Toby, please email Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com. While we welcome your questions about this dog, all adopters are required to complete a Protege Adoption Application before being considered to adopt a Protege dog; our adoption fee is $200.
