Chase is a 4 year old chocolate red tri Australian Shepherd male. He’s a big boy at 62lbs! But he’s overweight at this time and could stand to lose about 12lbs. He will be dieting when he arrives! Chase was dropped off at a vet by his family to be euthanized because he was becoming too protective of the farm and family. But this family didnt understand that that’s what Aussies were bred to do!
The vet didnt believe that Chase deserved to die just for doing his job and that’s when New Spirit stepped in. Chase is great with other dogs and a delight with people.
He’s a very typical Aussie boy in that he’s happy to work and needs lots of exercise or a job to do! We will be working on weight loss and socialization with this handsome dude while he’s in foster care. He’s good with older, respectful children and will make an excellent family dog. Chase will be fostering in Illinois.
Ginny is 8 weeks old as of December 11th, 2010 and she’s ready for her forever family! Ginny is a BOSSIE – Border Collie/Aussie mix female. She’s black with a white chest and white feet! Have you ever seen a cuter little girl than Ginny? Ginny was pulled off a property with the rest of her siblings after their mom abandoned them at 2 weeks of age. But her temp foster mom did good by her and kept her on formula until she was ready for hard puppy food. She is a healthy little baby girl now and well socialized.
Ginny currently weighs about 10lbs and is great with other dogs, cats and children. She’s puppy pad trained and seems eager to learn more! She’s very curious and happy, but is one of the more laid back puppies of the litter. Ginny is fostering in Apple Valley, MN.
Rumples is a gorgeous 3 year old red merle Australian Shepherd male. Rumples weighs about 50lbs and has a full, beautiful tail! We pulled Rumples from a shelter where he was put on the euth list to make room for more incoming stray dogs.
He was found as a stray as well and nobody ever claimed him. Rumples is one of the sweetest Aussies alive. He loves kids of all ages and has a great temperment for any family situation. He loves going to the dog park to play with the other dogs! We do not know how he is with cats at this time, but he’s such a laid back guy that it probably wouldnt be an issue. Rumples appears to be housebroken and is crate trained as well. He’s got excellent house manners and is game to either join you for a run around the town or to curl up on the couch with a movie! Rumples is fostered in White Bear Lake, Minnesota.
Jubilee is a 1.5 year old purebred red merle Australian Shepherd female. She’s got a lot more white on her body than your standard merle, but she’s got full hearing and vision. She’s a stunningly beautiful girl, with a docked tail and one amber eye and one half amber/half blue eye!
She minds well in the house and is not a high energy girl. She loves to sit on the couch and cuddle with her humans. She does great with other dogs, but is maybe a little too interested in the cats. Some she doesn’t bother, others upset her. She does very well with children too! Jubilee is about 35lbs currently but needs to gain 5-10 as she’s very thin right now. But this shouldnt be a problem because she loves to eat! She has spent much of her life as an outside dog and is still learning about potty training and leash walking. She is fully crate trained and sleeps through the night without a peep. She knows the ‘sit’ command and is a very velcro dog. She’s a shadow girl for sure!
Jubilee has a great personality and is easily trainable. She will need regular exercise and training to keep her from getting bored, she is very smart despite her easy going personality. Jubilee has excellent leash manners and heels very nicely. She never pulls! She is a bit nervous in the car but does not get sick. She will love car rides once she associates them with good things!
Cocoa is a gorgeous 10 week old minimal red merle Aussie male. He is a ‘Lethal White puppy and thus deaf and partially blind. But Cocoa loves life, despite his handicaps! He’s very sweet and very curious. Cocoa is outgoing and puppy happy! Cocoa will require a dedicated adoptive home who will take the time to do the research and complete the training that will give Cocoa the best quality of life possible. He’s a beautiful puppy with a beautiful spirit. Cocoa will be fostering in Apple Valley, MN.
Bindi has arrived! She is a 4yo female Aussie who is mostly white with some pretty blue merle patches. She’s deaf, though she can hear a few select pitches. She’s got starburst blue eyes but has most of her vision in them. She will need to be kept indoors so she’s not in the sun all day as it can burn her eyes and skin. But she loves going for walks!
Bindi is approximately 40 lbs and has a very soft, full, fluffy coat! She’s a very sweet girl who is very velcro and she attaches to her people almost instantly. She will follow her foster mom around everywhere! Bindi is crate trained, though she would prefer to be left loose in the house. She does very well and does not get into any mischief.
Bindi likes to know when her people leave her. Going off to work for the day is perfectly fine, so long as Bindi sees you leave. But if she wakes up to nobody, she gets a little anxious. She loves to sleep on thick, soft bedding and has just been a dream of a gal so far! Bindi looooves cats and gets along with dogs and children. Her best pal before coming into New Spirit was a cat, and Bindi would lay on the floor so kitty could bat at and play with her. Bindi enjoys tennis balls and frisbees and is a great play buddy. She is housebroken and is relatively quiet. She’s very cuddly and sweet. If you’re looking for a gorgeous gal to keep you warm this winter, consider Bindi!
They just don’t make them much sweeter than her! Bindi is fostering in Farmington, MN. Complete an application at New Spirit 4 Aussie Rescue, Reference NS 0841
Meet Keller, a lethal white female Australian Shepherd. Keller is technically a blue merle, who is deaf, with a lot of white features. Keller is around 35 pounds and is 2 years old.
Keller is the type of Aussie that loves everyone and everything. She crates well, she shares her toys, and she gets along well with other dogs and we are thinking cats as well. She hasn’t been kid or toddler tested, but all signs are she would do well in their presence if they are chidden that understand the rules of deaf dogs.

Meet Imnah, a 10 week + old blue merle puppy that is often referred to as a Lethal White. Imnah will be a full sized standard Australian Shepherd when full grown, probably around 40-45 pounds.
The foster home that Imnah is being fostered at, is working on lots of regular puppy training like walking on a leash, playing nice with other dogs and enjoying the company of people and children.
But this is the Hilton of foster homes and she also gets to play with a bossy cat, and a dog happy Guinea Pig, and an older Lad mix female and a rowdy Aussie mix male that plays well with puppies. Also the foster home is working on potty training and sign language so that the puppies will understand what we want.
While Imnah and her sister Imrah are special needs, we don’t require they both go to the same home, though we wouldn’t mind seeing the pair adopted together.

Meet Dothan, a 19 month old black tri male Australian Shepherd. Dothan will be available for adoption on the next few weeks, keep an eye out for this young fellow. Donthan is a special needs Aussie, he has PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy) and will likely be fully blind by 2 years old.

We are pleased to introduce handsome Quinn (Protege #0178)! Quinn is a neutered male blue merle Australian Shepherd with tons of personality who is eager to please! He is about 1-1/2 years old and very happy to be as active as you’d like. Quinn has beautiful markings; we especially like the dark merle spot on his left hind end (see photo).
Quinn loves to play with other dogs and is very gentle. He is not at all possessive about food; in fact, when his foster brother and sister are licking out human bowls, he just stands back and watches. Quinn is having a lot of fun with clicker training, and is enthusiastically learning come, sit, down, and rollover. When he’s out in the backyard, he comes right away to the door when called. He loves to go for car rides.
Quinn is completely housebroken and is cratetrained. He goes right into a crate, with or without a treat, and stays quietly. If he knows you are about, he may whine, but settles quickly when told. Though he loves to play and has a lot of energy, he also settles down nicely in the house, and lies quietly nearby while you work.
Quinn has a sporty build and would be a good candidate for additional training in obedience or a dog sport such as agility or flyball. He is overly excited when introduced to new situations, but we think the more socializing he gets, the less of a problem this will be. As he becomes more accustomed to and attached to his foster mom, he is starting to greet her by jumping up and putting his paws on her chest. He is very gentle about this and is doing it out of happiness, but of course it is a bad habit, and we are discouraging it. As a rule, he is not getting on furniture without being invited, though he has taken to jumping up into the bay window to look out (and how handsome he is sitting in the window!).
Quinn’s learned how to do stairs since he’s been in foster care, and now loves to run up and down. He is also beginning to carry stuffed toys around and play with them a bit; so far, he has not been destructive. He loves to enjoy a nice bone with the other dogs in the evening.
Quinn is up to date on all vaccinations, on heartworm and flea & tick preventative, and is ready to go to his forever home immediately. He is just looking for someone to be his best friend forever, and we’re sure he will do whatever you ask of him with unbounded happiness and enthusiasm. He is being fostered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Here is a video of Quinn playing with his foster brother:

Bindi is a 4 year old, 40 lb ‘lethal white’ Australian Shepherd female. She’s got stunning ice blue eyes and a gorgeous white coat with some blue merle spotting. Because of Bindi’s double merle breeding, she is deaf, other than hearing a few select sounds. But it hasn’t affected her any and she’s as sweet as they come!
Bindi is an energetic girl and a typical Aussie in her exercise needs. She loves to play ball and frisbee. Bindi is well trained using hand signals and one you learn them (we have a chart!) you’ll get along with her just swimmingly!
She’s a phenomenal dog who will make some lucky family very happy! Bindi is housebroken and likes going for walks. She does not particularly like being crated, but she is left loose in the house and is trusted not to be destructive or chew.
Mia is a 3yo blue merle ‘mini’ Australian Shepherd female who just came to New Spirit, so we are still learning about her. She’s gradually warming up but has a lot of nervous energy. She gets very nervous around new people and may have a fear of some men, but has been ‘caught’ snuggling with the gentleman in the foster home. Mia will do okay with new people as long as her foster mom is there with her, coaxing her along and calming her.
Mia is good with her leash on a walk and will only pull a bit when she gets excited, but she doesn’t chase after anything and isn’t skittish with passing cars. She is still working on her house training, but this may clear up after she settles in. Mia is starting to warm up to playing and we are still trying to find her favorite type of toy, but we know she doesn’t like squeaky toys. She is not a chewer or destructive of household items.
Mia is a very “velcro” Aussie who will sleep perfectly in her crate at night, but may bark if left alone during the day. She is good with cats, other dogs and older kids, but we do not recommend her for a home with small children as she will knock them down.
Mia is being fostered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Complete an application at New Spirit 4 Aussie Rescue. Reference NS 0788
Lillie loves children and gets along with other dogs. She really loves cats too! She will sit and lick them clean if they dare get close enough! She has proven to be housebroken and crate trained and she rarely barks or makes any noise. She is one of the sweetest Aussies we’ve ever met. She loves to hang out and is very good about going outside to potty. She likes going for walks and is a medium energy girl. Upon meeting her foster parents that first night, she immediately crawled up on them and hung on for dear life. She really seems to appreciate having a warm spot to sleep and caring people to fuss over her. Lillie is an ex breeder dog who was dropped at the shelter after she quit making money for the ‘breeder’.

Introducing Isabella (#174)! Isabella is a blue merle female Aussie with beautiful blue eyes, approximately 1 year old. She was found caught in an animal trap, and thankfully, she has been left with no permanent damage after she was freed from the trap by an animal control officer. Isabella is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested negative and on preventatives.
Isabella is a super sweet, affectionate velcro Aussie. She wants to be with you wherever you are. She is completely housetrained, and has not had any accidents in her foster home. She is very curious about the resident cats and has followed them around some, but has been respectful of them. Isabella is currently staying at Camp Bow Wow where she is able to interact with staff and up to 14 other dogs in the play areas. She has gotten along well with all staff and dogs that she has met.
Isabella does not seem familiar with being in a crate, so we are working on going into the crate on her own. Currently she needs to be led into the crate, where we then give her a treat in order to reinforce this new behavior. She is doing well, and does not seem nervous in the crate. She sometimes fusses initially when crated if she can still see you in the area, but she quiets quickly and is quiet when you leave the house.
Isabella does not enjoy car rides at this point in time. We have tried having her ride in the crate in the car, and she drools heavily and is uneasy. We have found that she rides better free, and we see much less drooling and she seems a bit more comfortable. I think with some desensitization and positive reinforcement, she can overcome her nervousness in the car. Isabella does not seem to know any formal obedience commands, so she is working on learning basic obedience commands with the clicker. She is very eager to make you happy, and is a quick study with learning new behaviors.
Isabella has likely been through some rough patches in her short life, and as a result she is a bit shy in new situations. She will take some time to warm up, but her naturally affectionate demeanor and her desire to please people help her work through this, and she is soon giving hugs. When she is in an environment she is comfortable with, she is quick to greet any visitors. When we picked her up from the shelter, she threw herself right into our arms for a hug with her Aussie nub just wigglin’ like crazy! She is a very sweet and beautiful dog inside and out, and will make her new forever home very lucky to have her!
Here is a little video of Isabella at camp:

Ayvah is a 1.5 year old purebred Australian Shepherd. She’s a pretty red merle with amber colored eyes, a docked tail and prick ears! She is very shy with new people and takes time to build trust in people. She will follow other dogs around and doesn’t seem interested in cats.
Ayvah would probably benefit from a quieter household, where she will be given time to come out of her shell. She is a very sweet girl who follows her foster mom around the house. She is crate trained and housebroken and she doesn’t ever make a peep.

Blitz is a 2 year old purebred blue merle Aussie girl. She’s has one blue eye, one brown eye and a docked tail. She was turned in with Lillie at the shelter, as an ex breeder dog. Blitz is about 40lbs and is just a stunning girl.
She is a rambunctious little gal for sure and we are working on getting her to stay down, she loves to jump on people! She really loves to play! She is really a great dog, especially when she settles down. She loves to cuddle when she does settle down and she always has kisses to give. She is a little slow to warm up to some men, but loves women.
Blitz is pretty good with cats and other dogs. She is doing well on house training and is great overnight with no accidents and no whining. Blitz seems to be experiencing some things for probably the first time. She was frightened by a flight of stairs when she first arrived at her foster home and, when giving her treats, she doesn’t take them right away. She is very curious about noises and smells and stares at the TV when it’s on! We have also noticed a little food guarding with other dogs; she likes her own space when she wants it and she’s pretty protective of her food. However, she quickly stopped growling when we got her attention away from it.

Bani came to us because he was said to be nipping, what we found is he is full of energy and needs that channeled, or he probably would get in trouble. If you are able to walk him, throw some tennis balls and frisbees, and maybe even have another Aussie around he will be that perfect gentleman we are seeing at this time. Many Aussies are this way, they need to have lots of energy burnt off or they will act up.
Bani loves to go for walks and is a real trooper when he is on leash. He is a little timid in the car, preferring to lay still in the back seat, no outbursts or jumping around. With more exposure to the car rides he would probably start to enjoy them more. He will crate very well and sleeps in his crate excellently. While he shows no food aggression issues, he actually ate right next to his new foster brother the first night, he did try to steal his foster brother’s treat and that is a no-no.

Bani has been to doggie daycare (“dog whisperer”) and knows his sit and down, and we are working on stay. He loves to play with his foster brother Royce, Royce is a tough and tumble player and Bani kept right up with him and they played for hours, so long that Bani was worn out and slept for hours, oblivious to the world (a true worn out Aussie). He also loves tennis balls. He is currently stalking the cat, but in Bani’s defense, the cat likes to pick on the dogs in the home.
Bani seems to prefer women and will instantly bond with the female in the home, becoming the true velcro dog. He will bark at men but not be aggressive. While in foster care we will work on his acceptance of men and the male gender. Bani does have the typical Aussie reserve and will bark at strangers but will stand down if given the command.

Mork (Protege #0171) is a 5 year old black-tri male Australian Shepherd. He was turned in by his owner due to the owner’s medical problems. He’s neutered and very well-mannered. Mork spent most of his 5 years locked up in his crate, so new surroundings make him a little timid. He likes to have his crate as an option for someplace to hide and feel safe. He is a fantastic dog to play fetch with (returns it every time), and he has just started agility training!
Mork LOVES other dogs. He goes to the dog parks a couple of times a week with his foster parents and loves running around with the other dogs and playing fetch. Mork’s foster parents have 2 cats that Mork gets along with fine (he’s submissive to them, so just ignores them or goes around them leaving plenty of space). Because of his slightly more timid nature, young children scare Mork at first. It might be best if he were placed in a home with older children.
When outside Mork has limitless energy, but inside he calms down and wants nothing more than to lay at your feet. The only time Mork will jump onto a bed or couch is if he is invited.
Mork is mostly a quite boy; the only times he has barked have been alarm barking ( i.e., if walking at night and someone approaches he will bark quietly or growl, or if no one is home and you walk up and shake the door handle he will bark through the door).
When left alone Mork can be crated or not. He is very well housetrained and has neither marked his territory nor had an accident in the house. Mork also knows how to: sit, stay, come, lay down, shake, fetch, stand up on hind legs and catch a ball in the air.
Here are a couple of short videos of Mork:
Mork is current on all his vet work, is on heartworm preventative, and is ready for his new home today! If you might be interested in learning more about Mork, please email Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com. While we welcome your questions about this dog, all adopters are required to complete a Protege Adoption Application before being considered to adopt a Protege dog; our adoption fee is $200.
