Retiring? Your Aussie Isn’t

“We are retiring soon, and having a dog really won’t fit in with our new lifestyle now. We’ll be traveling quite a bit, moving to a different state…so if we don’t find a new home for Maggie we have decided to just put her to sleep.”

Yes, these are the type of phone calls our rescue group gets on a regular basis. Usually a dog is released to rescue due to a home being lost, a death in the family, or a lack of income…rarely due to simply no longer fitting into the owner’s new lifestyle. Rescue groups exist for the ‘Maggies’ of the world…and because of saviors like Lisa Wilson they often find a new home even better than the first.

See, Maggie is a soon-to-be 14 year old dog who, though a bit hard of hearing and a little stiff in the morning, still has lots of love to give. Immediately Lisa and her family opened their hearts, and their home to Maggie, who they now jokingly call “the Maggesty”. Maggie is enjoying long walks every day and has a new job—keeping rabbits out of the yard. She plays for hours with her foster family’s 3-year old Aussie—also a rescue dog—and can quickly show any visitors which cabinet they should open if they would like to offer her a treat or two.

Thank you Maggie…for letting us help you, and Aussies just like you….every day of the year.

Yup just had one of those calls a couple of weeks ago, Panda was eight, and they were moving to a condo and she didn’t fit with the new lifestyle. A beautiful girl. She was heart broken when I picked her up.
Funny my husband and I spend our time looking for the perfect place to move to for our retirement that will benefit the dogs most. The old one are the most beautiful ones.
Thanks David for rescuing these wonderful pups.
