Meet Peppy, a 3 year old blue merle mini Australian Shepherd. Peppy is being treated for Heartworm and will be ready to adopt in the next few weeks. If you would like to help offset the costs of his treatment we would be honored.

Peppy is a very happy little guy, who weighs all of 25 pounds when he is soaking wet, he plays well with other dogs, and he is said to do well with cats.

Peppy likes to car ride and walks well on a leash, he is housebroken and is allowed to roam the house as a gentleman should. Peppy is also a snuggler and is always wanting that prime spot, your lap.

Meet Seba, a gentle souled red merle Australian Shepherd. She is 4 years old and weighs around 40-45 pounds. She has just completed her heartworm treatment and is fully recovered. But once she was finished it was discovered she will also need surgery for Hip Dsyplasia, so we will be having a double FHO performed on her. We ask you help offset the costs for this beautiful Red Merle Aussie.

Seba loves people, she loves car rides, she walks great on a leash, ignores cats and plays with other dogs great. She will probably be an Aussie who is more on the mellow side of life, and look for human contact all the time, as most Australian Shepherds will do.

Meet Crosby, a 2 year old black bi Australian Shepherd. He weighs around 35 pounds and is now recovering from Heartworm treatment (please donate if you can towards his expenses) and if he was a car, he would be a jet black 1970′s muscle car, with white pen stripes! he is full of energy and power.

Crosby would make a fantastic agility or flyable dog with some dedicated training and direction. He has been seem actually jumping over his 3 foster brother and sisters in one hop!

Crosby is learning to walk on a leash, he plays well with other dogs, ignores cats, loves anyone one with 2 legs, and rides okay in a car. He will crate very well. He does tend to guard his food, but we think that too can be overcome and his foster mom and dad are busy training him.

We Are Being Flooded

I arrived at work Monday only to discover we are over flowing with emergency rescues all over the State of Illinois, Indiana and Missouri.

We have 3 Australian Shepherds at the Effingham Animal Control in Effingham Illinois that need rescued. Colleen, one of our Central Illinois volunteers is traveling there today to see what the status is and knowing how we are will be traveling back home with 3 Aussies all in need of rescue.

We have 1 beautiful red merle female pup that is in Franklin County Indiana that is on the PTS list and is shy or afraid of people, she was a stray and we are hoping it entails shelter shock, which so many Aussies seem to acquire in shelters.

Then down in Joplin Missouri we have these 2 mini Aussies that are in dire straits and we are hoping are headed to New Spirit this weekend. They were surrendered to the shelter and are said to be good boys and girls.

ADOPTED: Hannah Montana Black Tri Australian Shepherd Female NS 0616

Happy Hannah Montana!

Meet Hannah Montana, this small, mellow, happy little black tri Australian Shepherd, Border Collie mix. Hannah just completed Heartworm treatment and is ready for her family.

Hannah is a 35 pound black tri Aussie/Border Collie mix who is very mellow and very well behaved. She is housebroken, loves car rides and walks. She gets along with other dogs just fine. She is okay with children but she may shy away with lots of active children around.

Hannah is also a great lover and is not one to take her celebrity status and let it go to her head, she is at home with doggies that just got sprung from a shelter to any of those famous dogs like Rin Tin Tin.

ADOPTED: Maiya Red Merle Female (NS 0621)

Maiya is around 2 years old, she is a red merle female Aussie. Maiya is a little shy at first but warms up very quickly. She is crated during the day while her foster parents are at work and, for now, at night. She is quiet, calm and content in her crate and will enter the crate on the “in” command. She is a polite little lady in the car and will just sit and enjoy the scenery. She walks respectful on a leash and understands basic obedience commands: sit, down, stay and come although, come is still a bit intermittent. She stood and tolerated her bath like a trooper and loves to be brushed. You can pick up her feet, touch her tail, look in her ears and mouth without issue. She is a laid back eater, not greedy or possessive and takes treats very gently. She gets along well with both dogs and cats. She will play Frisbee and catch but doesn’t always bring them back. She sometimes runs by you hoping you will chase her instead. She is considerate of the house and will go potty outside but she needs to be let out often as she doesn’t yet know how to tell you she has to go. Maiya is quick to learn and very willing to try anything for praise. She is a typical velcro Aussie that will follow you anywhere just to be near you. She hates thunder and really loud noises but doesn’t get crazy just nervous and will pace. She would be in your lap if you let her. The foster family has a 2 paw rule when your sitting – 2 paws on me 2 paws on the floor. Which she is more than happy to respect. The vet estimates her at about 2 years old and she weighs 36 pounds.
