ADOPTED: NS 0840 Mr. Burns 10 Year Old Blue Merle Male Australian Shepherd Special Needs Wisconsin

Meet Mr. Burns, no not the one that Homer doesn’t like but the good Mr. Burns. You see Burns is from Kentucky, and we think he was used to sire many puppies in a puppy mill, in other words a puppy mill stud, who was probably no longer needed to perform his duties. Well in the puppy mill world you are pretty much out the door, either dumped, put to sleep or worse kept in a crate until you die. Lucky for Burns he was able to find his way to a shelter, only to be set for the long walk, you see Mr. Burns had lots of strikes against him, he was old, he was blind in one eye, he has teeth worn down to the numb from chewing on the wires in his crate, he was arthritic, and he didn’t have a gleam of hope in his eyes. He was then transferred to another shelter to buy him 10 more days of life while rescues were pleaded with to take this old gentleman.

Burns was able to get to us at New Spirit, and he touched every heart along the way, causing many to cry and many to give him well deserved hugs and attention. Who was this thrown away Australian Shepherd that touched so many on his journey to safety?

[frame_center src="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/PC120028-400x300.jpg" href="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/PC120028.jpg"]NS 0840 Mr. Burns[/frame_center]

So now meet the new and improved Mr. Burns, he is around 42 pounds, he is around 10 years old, we are working on his eye (we will probably have it removed, we aren’t sure on getting him a prosthetic eye, but if we can receive enough in donations, this guy can walk away with some additional pride!) as well as we will remove some of his teeth from the years of crate containment.

[frame_center src="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/KY18.18040146-3-x1-400x266.jpg" href="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/KY18.18040146-3-x1.jpeg"]NS 0840 Mr. Burns[/frame_center]

Mr. Burns when he arrived was very timid and unsure, but since he has been in his foster mom and dad’s spread up in Wisconsin, he has been given a new lease on life, he gets to have 2 other Aussies in the home to interact with, though they tend to ignore him, he is fine with that, he is just happy to not be crated, and allowed to actually loosen up his legs and run like the wind!

[frame_center src="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/PC120005-2-400x300.jpg" href="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/PC120005-2.jpg"]NS 0840 Mr. Burns[/frame_center]

Mr. Burns rides well in a car, walks good on a leash, is learning to chase a ball, he is completely a gentleman and uses the great outdoors to do his business. He is getting used to what it’s like in a house and he is in heaven.

[frame_center src="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/PC120020-400x300.jpg" href="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/PC120020.jpg"]NS 0840 Mr. Burns[/frame_center]

So if you think that everyone deserves a second chance, and an old Aussie who was made to sire a many a pup, is worth giving 4-5 more years in your home, we would be delighted, and so would Mr. Burns. If you would like to help offset the MAJOR medical bills he has incurred, please help out there as well, we have a Chip In jar online for him. Chip in HERE!

We would like to give an update on Mr. Burns, he had his eye surgery the other day and he is very uncomfortable, so any prayers and good vibes his way would really help him out. Mr. Burns will have one more surgery in a few months to remove some bad teeth. It really pains us to put him threw this as he doesn’t understand we are only trying to help him.

ADOPTED: NS 0585 Nero (Cody) 4 Year Old Red Merle Male Australian Shepherd Illinois

Meet Nero, a beautiful red merle Australian Shepherd, who weighs around 45 pounds, and is about 5 years old. Nero was one of our first adoptions in Illinois but was returned. He started to growl at children in the home under 12 years of age, because of this we are asking you only apply if you don’t have pre-teens or younger living in the home. He is not aggressive, just lets them know he is uncomfortable.

Nero with adults and teenagers is just like any other dog that loves people. He gets along fine with other dogs, tolerates cats and is completely housebroken.

Nero is good in a car, on a leash and will not chew on anything left out. He is the perfect indoor dog. Nero is not an overly active Aussie so an adopter looking for a companion will not find a better friend to have in their home.

NS 0840 Mr Burns 10 Year Old Blue Merle Australian Shepherd In Need Wisconsin

Meet Mr. Burns, he is 1 10 year old blue merle Australian Shepherd, who was probably a puppy mill stud, who is now too old to matter and too damaged (according to the puppy mill) to be of any use to them. You see Mr. Burns was turned in for health reason to a shelter, health reasons that will cost money, and shelters can’t afford to spend money on such niceties as surgeries, they have too many dogs thrown away every day to care for. Mr. Burns was set for euthanization 2 times and each time was spared by the grace and kindness of a shelter manager who was willing to take him into their shelter to buy him 10 more days of life, hoping and praying that someone somewhere would see the value in Mr. Burns, and take him into rescue and attend to his needs. We saw him, and we saw his potential, dirty, matted and stained coat and all, he was of great value to us, we knew he would be a great Australian Shepherd, a credit to his breed.

Br. Burns needs a few items attended to, one is a very damaged pride and ego, one that was deflated and taken so low, that many that met him felt he was the saddest and probably should be let go and pass to the bridge, we say HECK NO! He has many fine years left in him, his sadness is already going away, and he is displaying the usual Aussie butt wiggles and the happy dance that so many Aussies will do.

    [frame_center src="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/PC120013-2-300x400.jpg" href="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/PC120013-2.jpg"]NS 0840 Mr Burns Needs Your Help[/frame_center]

Mr. Burns needs to have an eye that has gone bad removed, and if there is enough there, even a possible prosaic replacement, he also has teeth worn down to the numb, from being left in a crate all the time and from lots of boredom, you see puppy mill dogs don’t get toys, or attention, just produce puppies so we can buy them from the pet shops, aren’t they even cuter now that you know mom and dad are treated like some un-cared for machine?

NS 0631 Bono Needs Your Help for Hip Replacement Surgery

Meet Bono, a 1 year old black tri Australian Shepherd who for no fault of his own came to our rescue. His owner said they couldn’t care and afford him anymore, he had a rash, and he was thought to have those nasty worms.

    [frame_center src="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Bono2-400x265.jpg" href="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Bono2.jpg"]NS 0631 Bono Needs Your Help[/frame_center]

Once we settled Bono in and got him tested for worms, as well as we had him neutered, all the first week of his arrival and to find he had Giardia. With the nasty bug and his neuter surgery, his foster mom noticed he was very sluggish and not as active as he should be, even with all his ailments. We recommend he head in for a checkup. We were expecting the worst, and hoping for the best, but we got the worst.

    [frame_center src="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Bono1-400x266.jpg" href="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Bono1.jpg"]NS 0631 Bono Needs Your Help[/frame_center]

Bono needs a total hip replacement, both hips, and it will be expensive. He is a great dog, he is considerate of all dogs he meets, he wants to run and play, but without any actual hip sockets, he struggles and wears out quickly. We are going to proceed with this surgery and give this boy a normal life.

    [frame_center src="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Bono-41-400x265.jpg" href="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Bono-41.jpg"]NS 0631 Bono Needs Your Help[/frame_center]

If you could reach into your pocket, maybe skip one present for the family and instead send it to New Spirit 4 Aussie Rescue, we would be very indebted, as would Bono so he can run and play with all the other guys and girls in his world.

NS 0658 Shayla Update On Her ProgressBlue Merle Female Australian Shepherd Illinois

Our little girl Shayla who was shot, then attacked when she went to a farm house for help, has been battling to save the back leg that was shot. After a long journey across Iowa that spring day bank in May, to now, we are still in a struggle to keep her as a 4-legged little girl.

    [frame_center src="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Shayla-Shadow-26-400x300.jpg" href="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Shayla-Shadow-26.jpg"]Shayla After 1st Surgery[/frame_center]

Shayla is around 1 year old, she has the heart of a real trooper, she is always affectionate and loves everyone in her foster home, she gets along great with her 2 foster sisters, sometimes even sharing a bed.

    [frame_center src="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Shayla-Shadow-74-400x300.jpg" href="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Shayla-Shadow-74.jpg"]Shayla Shares a Bed[/frame_center]

Shayla also has 2 human foster brothers an she treats them like a real sister would, hanging out, and playing, but they refuse to do tea-time with her, but we will work on that, come on guys, she’s just a girl ;)

    [frame_center src="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Shayla-Shadow-81-400x300.jpg" href="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Shayla-Shadow-81.jpg"]Come On Guys, Lets Play Barbies![/frame_center]

We have put Shayla through numerous surgeries to try to save her leg, she has been in a cast for almost 12 weeks, but the latest X-rays didn’t look promising, infect there seemed to be no bone growth at all, this whole time she has been great and runs and plays with her sisters as if she was 100%.

    [frame_center src="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Shayla-Shadow-29-400x300.jpg" href="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Shayla-Shadow-29.jpg"]The Girls Get Together[/frame_center]

So now we come to a crossroads with Shayla, our next option is to remove her leg, but we also know once it’s gone, it’s gone for good, so being the optimist we are, and her doctor feeling she has a chance, performed a new procedure this week. They are trying to revitalize the bone ends, they have put a ceramic brace around her leg to restrict any and all movement.

Azel and his Brave Survival Attitude. Our Special Australian Shepherd in Illinois

    NS 0755 Azel

    NS 0755 Azel

Meet Azel, a 9 year old Australian shepherd who came to us at Aussie Rescue IL from a comment at our Ottawa Bark in the Park, I was manning the booth and was told of an Aussie that was found on the side of the road, he had been hit by a car, and he had suffered facial injuries, bad enough that surgery was required to save his jaw, it was wired back into place. Azel survived that incident and was recovering in a rescue in the Ottawa/Peru area, Illinois Valley Animal Rescue.

    NS 0755 Azel

    NS 0755 Azel

Chris contacted me and told me she had this brave Australian Shepherd, a blue merle with a tail, and she was hoping a rescue like ours, we specialize in the Aussie, could take him and help him find a forever home, someone that would treat him like a new puppy. All our adopters treat all our Aussies like a new born pup, a real member of the family. So with IVAR covering what was already a $500.00 vet/surgery bill we took him into our rescue with New Spirit 4 Aussie Rescue.

    NS 0755 Azel

    NS 0755 Azel

Azel had been with his new foster mom for a few weeks and she was alarmed that he would drink lots of water and then “pee a river” which she as a trained vet-technician felt it could be a sign of things to check. After a full blood-work-up, it was discovered that Azel has kidney disease, which is going to require he eat a special diet and take a supplement to give him a life that he could finish out with normal urinary functions and a normal life span, without these 2 items, he would more then likely endue passing away or worse we would have to bring his life to a final chapter, and we want him to have all the chances he deserves, he did survive a car accident.
