Rally (#0191) is a beautiful blue merle Mini-Aussie, with one blue and one brown eye. He is about 7 months old, is neutered, and is up to date on all shots. He is a bit chubby at 16 pounds and needs to lose a few pounds to get to his ideal weight.
Rally is a little shy when meeting someone new, but give him a treat and you’ve got a friend for life. He gets along great with other dogs and is fine with cats. He is a little timid around children.

Rally is housebroken and we are working on basic training. He knows how to sit, lie down, spin and shake! He does wonderfully on car rides, mostly just lays down in the seat next to you. He is just a very easy-going dog. He loves to go on walks and will follow you anywhere. Well, except to the bathroom: since he got a bath, he is a little timid of it. But is starting to venture in.
Rally is a very sweet and loving dog. He loves attention and cuddling. Here is a little video of Rally showing off his sociable cuteness:
His favorite toys are balls and nylon bones. Rally would be a great addition to your home. He is being fostered in Coralville.

Cassie is a very sweet and loving 1-2 year old lethal white female mini Australian Shepherd. Fortunately, neither her hearing nor vision has been affected by this, however (although given her age and puppy characteristics there are definitely days she’d argue otherwise
As her foster mom, I’d label is as more “selective” hearing.). Cassie only weighs about 20lbs. She has littered one set of puppies recently and is consequently not yet spayed, but will be prior to adoption.

She’s a busy girl, who loves toys, bones, playing with other dogs, and chasing the squirrels outside, and the cat inside. She’s a very quick learner and does all she can to please you. You don’t need to teach her things twice, and she is definitely remorseful when she forgets. She’s learning the command “sit,” and is house and kennel-trained. She’s definitely a lover too and soaks up any and all attention you’ll give her. She plays well with children and will make her new family quite happy. Cassie is fostering in Minneapolis, MN.

Neekoh is an adorable 1 year old red merle male Aussie. Though sometimes I think he’s part bear cub in how fuzzy he is! He’s got a lot of soft, thick fur that makes anybody who gets near him want to snuggle with him. He’s a bit shy at first but remains sweet. He’s great with other dogs, in fact he’s so comfortable with them, we are recommending that he be adopted by someone with at least one other dog in the home. He also gets along great with cats and children.

Neekoh is housebroken and crate trained. He’s got nice leash manners and he’s a pretty quiet dude most of the time. Neekoh loves to play and roll in fresh powder snow! He would make a great winter hiking buddy! He’s very playful but doesn’t bounce off the walls. When he wants something, he will bring his front paws up at you. Its too cute for most to resist! Neekoh is still a bit of a chewer and I dont recommend that he be left alone in a home until he can be trusted unsupervised. His favorite human ‘toy’ seems to be my area rug. He will pick it up by the corner and drag it around the house. But he’s quickly learning that that’s a no no! Neekoh is still unsure about hardwood or linolium flooring. He cant figure out why he always slips when he walks on it. But he’s working it out.

We are reintroducing Toby (Protege #0167)! Toby is a very handsome and sweet 6 year old neutered blue merle male mini Aussie (about 30 pounds) with adorable and unique prick ears. He was turned into the rescue last summer by his owner who was moving and unable to take him.
We have been so surprised that no one is expressing any interest in Toby, because his personality is about perfect. Check out that smile! Whether you are looking for your first dog, or just for a companion to keep you company and to keep you entertained, Toby would fit the bill perfectly! He is funny and playful, loves toys and can entertain himself carrying a stuffed toy around and tossing it in the air. He has not been destructive at all with his toys. He LOVES to play fetch, so is lots of fun for the kiddies (not to mention for the adults). He always brings the ball right back for another toss. He will also catch a ball or a toy when it’s tossed to him.
[frame_center src="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Toby-Large1-300x400.jpg" href="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Toby-Large1.jpeg"]Toby (Protege #0167)[/frame_center]
Toby knows various commands like sit, stay, come, wait, and roll over, as well as paw and other paw (shake). Toby walks well on leash and really enjoys going on walks, whether you want a nice brisk walk on a cold winter day, or have time for a leisurely walk so he can enjoy the smells of the world.
Toby enjoys being outside, and has a good thick coat for these chilly winter days. He wanders and explores in the fenced backyard at his foster home. He is not a nuisance barker; in fact, he is rarely heard. He is graceful and agile — he jumps up into the bay window at his foster home without a second thought so he can sit and watch the world pass by outside. (And, unlike his foster brother and sister, he doesn’t bark at the world as it passes by.)
[frame_center src="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Toby-large-400x303.jpg" href="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Toby-large.jpeg"]Toby (Protege #0167)[/frame_center]
Toby has been crated when left alone, but is dependable in the house and this would not be necessary. He has been with cats and they are of no consequence to him. (Yet another plus for this awesome little guy!)
While Toby gets along perfectly fine with other dogs, we really prefer that he be adopted as an only dog, because he is 100% a people dog. If there is another dog in the home, he will be happier not to have to interact with it, and he is not the right choice for you if you need a playmate for a current dog. He is submissive and lets other dogs take his beloved toys; he even has a bit of a hard time eating with other dogs around because he is worried they will take his food. Consequently, other dogs tend to pick on him.
He is wonderful with all people, though, and we are confident that his personality will really blossom in a home where he can get all the love and attention. Toby is a love bug and so enjoys being petted and rubbed. He takes treats very gently, another plus if you have little ones in your home.
Here are a couple of videos of Toby showing how much he likes his stuffed football (sorry the light on the inside one is so poor, but trust us, he’s adorable!):
Toby is up to date on his vaccinations and is currently on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. He is being fostered in Marion, Iowa. If you might be interested in learning more about Toby, please email Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com. While we welcome your questions about this dog, all adopters are required to complete a Protege Adoption Application before being considered to adopt a Protege dog; our adoption fee is $200.
Meet Samuel, a 1.5 year old red tri Australian Shepherd who weighs a whopping 25 pounds soaking wet. Samuel is a very active little boy. Sam is on the active side and will really need a family that fits his active lifestyle. We are working on agility and possibly some flyball lessons for him. Sam came in as a bit timid and scared of other dogs, but since he has been with his foster mom, he has blossomed into a love everyone Aussie. While we feel he will be fine in a home with other dogs, we recommend if you meet him to bring along any other dogs in the home to make sure it will be a good fit.

Mia is a 3yo blue merle ‘mini’ Australian Shepherd female who just came to New Spirit, so we are still learning about her. She’s gradually warming up but has a lot of nervous energy. She gets very nervous around new people and may have a fear of some men, but has been ‘caught’ snuggling with the gentleman in the foster home. Mia will do okay with new people as long as her foster mom is there with her, coaxing her along and calming her.
[frame_center src="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Mia1.jpeg" href="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Mia1.jpeg"]NS 0788 Mia[/frame_center]
Mia is good with her leash on a walk and will only pull a bit when she gets excited, but she doesn’t chase after anything and isn’t skittish with passing cars. She is still working on her house training, but this may clear up after she settles in. Mia is starting to warm up to playing and we are still trying to find her favorite type of toy, but we know she doesn’t like squeaky toys. She is not a chewer or destructive of household items.

Mia is a very “velcro” Aussie who will sleep perfectly in her crate at night, but may bark if left alone during the day. She is good with cats, other dogs and older kids, but we do not recommend her for a home with small children as she will knock them down.

Bani came to us because he was said to be nipping, what we found is he is full of energy and needs that channeled, or he probably would get in trouble. If you are able to walk him, throw some tennis balls and frisbees, and maybe even have another Aussie around he will be that perfect gentleman we are seeing at this time. Many Aussies are this way, they need to have lots of energy burnt off or they will act up.
Bani loves to go for walks and is a real trooper when he is on leash. He is a little timid in the car, preferring to lay still in the back seat, no outbursts or jumping around. With more exposure to the car rides he would probably start to enjoy them more. He will crate very well and sleeps in his crate excellently. While he shows no food aggression issues, he actually ate right next to his new foster brother the first night, he did try to steal his foster brother’s treat and that is a no-no.

Bani has been to doggie daycare (“dog whisperer”) and knows his sit and down, and we are working on stay. He loves to play with his foster brother Royce, Royce is a tough and tumble player and Bani kept right up with him and they played for hours, so long that Bani was worn out and slept for hours, oblivious to the world (a true worn out Aussie). He also loves tennis balls. He is currently stalking the cat, but in Bani’s defense, the cat likes to pick on the dogs in the home.
Bani seems to prefer women and will instantly bond with the female in the home, becoming the true velcro dog. He will bark at men but not be aggressive. While in foster care we will work on his acceptance of men and the male gender. Bani does have the typical Aussie reserve and will bark at strangers but will stand down if given the command.

Meet little Nevaeh, Heaven spelled backwards. Nev is a deaf Australian Shepherd who weighs around 25 pounds, is around a year and a half old and is always busy and always happy. Nevaeh loves to play all the time, she will pretty much do anything for a tennis ball, so she is more tennis ball motivated then treat, but she loves those too.

Nevaeh is learning how to walk on a leash, she is pretty much housebroken, it’s more of a deal that she plays so hard that she forgets she needs to go the bathroom, but the tennis balls are working and she is learning that potty outside is how she gets her tennis ball. She will crate, though she is fine at night. Once she is in the swing she probably won’t even need to be crated.
[frame_center src="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/photo-11-400x265.jpg" href="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/photo-11.jpeg"]NS 0820 Nevaeh[/frame_center]
Nevaeh plays well with other dogs, she might take a day to warm up, but once she is she is fine. She rides well in a car, though since she is deaf, we would always recommend a harness/seatbelt or a crate. Honestly all dogs need secured when in a car.

Gunnar Becker is a wiggly mini red tri Australian Shepherd who weighs around 30-35 pounds. His foster mom has nicknamed this mini red aussie Mr. Wiggles as he would loss a pair of pants if he wore pants since he wiggles his butt so much. Gunnar came to rescue with the need for a bath and a deep cleaning and had lots of mats and fleas from being a stray and finally being caught by the dog police Now that Gunnar has had a bath he is really soft and mat free, and flea free to
Gunnar is very affectionate and loves to snuggle in bed and on the couch. Gunnar is learning how to walk on a leash and go into his crate. Once in his crate he is quiet and will lay down. Gunnar likes to be outside and will chase his foster brothers around the yard. He also likes bones and toys. Gunnar loves people and other dogs, even kids! He doesn’t mind cats either.
Gunnar likes car rides, although he isn’t fond of getting into the car, but once he is in and moving he really enjoys it. Gunnar is almost 100% housebroken. He is still learning to trust people and will need someone with patience and the desire to show this little red tri that people are good to hang with.

I arrived at work Monday only to discover we are over flowing with emergency rescues all over the State of Illinois, Indiana and Missouri.
We have 3 Australian Shepherds at the Effingham Animal Control in Effingham Illinois that need rescued. Colleen, one of our Central Illinois volunteers is traveling there today to see what the status is and knowing how we are will be traveling back home with 3 Aussies all in need of rescue.
We have 1 beautiful red merle female pup that is in Franklin County Indiana that is on the PTS list and is shy or afraid of people, she was a stray and we are hoping it entails shelter shock, which so many Aussies seem to acquire in shelters.
Then down in Joplin Missouri we have these 2 mini Aussies that are in dire straits and we are hoping are headed to New Spirit this weekend. They were surrendered to the shelter and are said to be good boys and girls.
We are finally getting Beere up from Texas this week as well. So anyone that has thought about fostering or adopting, now is the time to contact us for an application at New Spirit 4 Aussie Rescue.

Gambit is making fantastic progress in socializing with men! On Sunday he went to both Petco and Petsmart where he approached several men on his own, and did very well, no submissive urination, no fear barking at all. He was very excited to be out and about meeting people.
At home it took about 2 and a half weeks to get comfortable with my fiance putting his leash on, and now he very rarely has any submissive urination when Rick reaches for his collar. Otherwise he has no fear of Rick, in fact he loves to lay on the couch with him and cuddle.
Gambit went to flyball practice with me Monday night, and went right up to two different men he had not met before for treats. No submissive urination, no fear barking at all, and he seemed to enjoy the attention after the initial nervous moment. He enjoyed meeting everyone else as well. As I suspected, with love and trust Gambit is becoming a much more confident dog, and we are seeing the fear lessening day by day. He now seems to understand that he is safe here and that he does not need to fear when someone is reaching for his collar. I am now confident that with gentle hands and time to trust he can adjust to a home with men in it.
Here are a couple of videos of Gambit at day care:

Bark in the Park, CUPCAKES!
Well we had our booth at the Ottawa Bark in the Park, and it was a huge success. Stephanie Z must have baked over 200 cupcakes as she was able to generate $180.00 in just cupcake sales. She also made some homemade doggie treats. I want all our Aussies to give Steph the honoray Aussie butt Wiggle! Also a big thanks to Stephanies husband for bringing tables and a tent to shade us from the sun. Also for having Stryder show his great Aussie friendliness.
Also Sherry Mc brought homemade doggie treats (I tried one, it was a little bland, but good) and her family to help out as well manning the booth. Sherry brought Toby and Holland as well to show how great of kissers they were!

Paul and Peggy M from my area also lent a hand as well. They brought their 2 Aussies, Samantha and Sydney. Both were excellent Aussies.

Hal and his wife Michelle came with their Aussie as well, they couldn’t bring Shadow or Shayla as both are recovering from surgery.

I had Diamond there, she stole the show with her all white coat, blue eyes and great spirit. Diamond is a lethal white.

Say hello to Sam, he was a mini Australian Shepherd that was down in Paris Illinois. He was dumped because he would nip at the child in the home, and we beleive he was abused and beaten for doing this, since he would shrink away when we tried to measure his height.
He was adopted by a family in Southern Illinois, she gave him time, attention, and lots of love, and he has turned into a confident, happy young man. Way to go Sam!
