Washington is a casualty of the recession and was given to us because his owner from puppyhood knew he would not be able to support Washington.

Washington walks good on a leash though some refresher courses might help, he rides great in a car, but does get happy feet, he also is house broken and gets along well with other dogs and with children.

ADOPTED: NS 0784 Riggs Red Bi Australian Shepherd Male Minnesota

Riggs is a 2 year old mahogany red bi purebred Aussie male. He is wonderful with other dogs and is so sweet, he just loves people. Riggs had some eye trauma at some point in his life causing him to lose his right eye. But he’s on the mend now and still has perfect sight out of his beautiful left eye! Riggs has remained calm and even tempered throughout his eye ordeal despite the discomfort he must have been in. Riggs is not good with farm poultry. He’s got a lot of drive and would probably rock at agility or rally obedience, or even herding! Riggs will be fostered in St Paul, MN.

ADOPTED: NS 0649 DOZER Red Tri Aussie/Border Collie mix Minnesota

This rough and tumble boy is Dozer. He is a happy Aussie/Border Collie mix puppy with a zest for life! Though he’s growing up to look like a Chocolate Lab. At four months and 35 pounds, he should be about 50+ pounds when mature. We expect he will fluff out a bit, too, and grow a longer coat.as he reaches the 18 month mark, but he’ll probably always be on the shorter-coated side compared to an purebred Aussie.

[frame_center src="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/dozer2-400x266.jpg" href="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/dozer2.jpg"]NS 0649 DOZER[/frame_center]

Dozer is a typical puppy–klutzy, loveable, and always ready to play! Dozer needs a family who is ready for typical puppy energy and hijinks. Dozer loves it when you run your hands down the carpet making scratching noises.

Dozer is walking much better on a leash now than when he arrived, but leash walking and energetic puppies don’t always go hand in hand so additional work as he grows will be needed. This boy will work for food! Teaching him to sit and some other basic is so easy when you have a treat in your hand. Dozer is currently working on “leave it”, but it is just so hard!

[frame_center src="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/dozer1-400x302.jpg" href="http://www.aussierescueil.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/dozer1.jpg"]NS 0649 DOZER[/frame_center]

Dozer is well on his way to being potty trained. He has the concept, but sometimes, he can’t hold it all night long, not too unusual for a 4 month old pup. He will have a little excited piddling from time to time, too, but should grow out of that. To adopt Dozer complete an application at New Spirit 4 Aussie Rescue. Reference NS 0649

We Are Being Flooded

I arrived at work Monday only to discover we are over flowing with emergency rescues all over the State of Illinois, Indiana and Missouri.

We have 3 Australian Shepherds at the Effingham Animal Control in Effingham Illinois that need rescued. Colleen, one of our Central Illinois volunteers is traveling there today to see what the status is and knowing how we are will be traveling back home with 3 Aussies all in need of rescue.

We have 1 beautiful red merle female pup that is in Franklin County Indiana that is on the PTS list and is shy or afraid of people, she was a stray and we are hoping it entails shelter shock, which so many Aussies seem to acquire in shelters.

Then down in Joplin Missouri we have these 2 mini Aussies that are in dire straits and we are hoping are headed to New Spirit this weekend. They were surrendered to the shelter and are said to be good boys and girls.

Bark in the Park, CUPCAKES!

Well we had our booth at the Ottawa Bark in the Park, and it was a huge success. Stephanie Z must have baked over 200 cupcakes as she was able to generate $180.00 in just cupcake sales. She also made some homemade doggie treats. I want all our Aussies to give Steph the honoray Aussie butt Wiggle! Also a big thanks to Stephanies husband for bringing tables and a tent to shade us from the sun. Also for having Stryder show his great Aussie friendliness.

Also Sherry Mc brought homemade doggie treats (I tried one, it was a little bland, but good) and her family to help out as well manning the booth. Sherry brought Toby and Holland as well to show how great of kissers they were!

Paul and Peggy M from my area also lent a hand as well. They brought their 2 Aussies, Samantha and Sydney. Both were excellent Aussies.

ADOPTED: Rugby (Protege #0159) red Bi Australian Shepherd Puppy

Rugby (Protege #0159)

Rugby (Protege #0159)

Meet Rugby (#0159), a whole lot of Aussie love in a tiny little package! Rugby is an adorable 8 pound red mini Aussie. He is a one and a half year old neutered male.

Beware…once you see him and cuddle with him (he will tuck his little nose right along side your neck if you let him)…he is irresistable! Rugby didn’t have the best start to his life, so he has a few things he is working on (hey, nobody’s perfect, right?). Rugby is not currently comfortable pottying on leash, but he is slowly making progress on this and has now gone a few times on leash. He much prefers to potty off leash in a secure area. He has not had any accidents in his crate since coming to our house, nor has he had any accidents on the floor. Rugby is fearful of small children to the point of hiding from them. We are currently still testing to see if this is an issue that can be lessened over a long period of time with careful exposure, but we can for certain say that we feel it would be best if he went to a home without young children.

Rugby currently is fostered in a home with four other dogs and two cats, and he goes daily with his foster mom to doggie daycare where he interacts with 14 other dogs at a time that are sized from 5 pounds up to 35 pounds. He will stand up for himself if another dog gets pushy, but he has been getting along well with all of the other dogs, and with the cats as well. He and his foster brother, a 12 pound sheltie, have begun to enjoy chasing each other around the house.

Rugby is up to date on all vaccinations, and is currently on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives.

He is being fostered in Cedar Rapids. Contact Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com with questions and for more information. While we welcome your questions about this dog, all adopters are required to complete a Protege Adoption Application before being considered to adopt a Protege dog; our adoption fee is $200.

ADOPTED: Ace (Protege #0162) Red Bi Australian Shepherd Iowa

Ace (Protege #0162)

Ace (Protege #0162)

Ace (Protege #0162) is a 5 month old red-tri Aussie puppy. He has a desire to please people and learns new things quickly. Ace has learned how to hit it (touching his nose to your hand) and how to spin left to right. Ace also knows how to sit, lie down, and fetch. He is still working on housebreaking. He is very good at going potty outside as long as you take him out often. Ace is kennel trained. If you get a treat out and ask him to go to his kennel he will go in right away.

Ace has been exposed to a lot of different dogs and has yet to meet a dog that he doesn’t get a long with. He is very respectful towards the other dogs and will give them space if they need it.

Ace really seems to enjoy the water. In the last week or so Ace has learned to fetch a toy from the water and give it to his foster mom to be thrown in again. He is a very well-rounded puppy, ready to please and to learn from his new owners.

Ace is current on vaccinations and will be neutered before he is adopted. He is being fostered in Coralville, Iowa.

If you think Ace might be a good match, please contact Jayne at mcjayne@mcquillen.org. While we welcome your questions about this dog, all adopters are required to complete a Protege Adoption Application before being considered to adopt a Protege dog; our adoption fee is $200.

PENDING: Jager Red Bi Australian Shepherd Male for Adoption NS 0618

Jager NS 0618

Jager NS 0618

Jager is a healthy young 50lb. male red bi Australian Shepherd around 2 years old. He is loves being close to his “owner”. He has been trained to sit, lie, and knows the meaning of words such as “no” and “down”. He does well in a crate and is not food aggressive (food is out all day for him, no issues with the other dog in the home). He walks well on a leash and does not pull or try to “take off” after other dogs.

He has had no problems with other family dogs, he plays the border collie in his foster home and ignores a Pomeranian. He pays little attention to cats unless they frighten him, then he barks at them. He is well behaved at the dog park and no evidence of aggression besides normal play wrestling with other dogs.

Jager NS 0618

Jager NS 0618

Jager rides well in cars with a reminder that he cannot sit in the front seat. Like most Aussie’s he needs an “alpha”-owner from time to time to remind him of his place in the family pack. He does not like being approached by strange males with objects in their hands, and does not like fireworks or loud booming sounds.

Jager is being fostered in the Peoria Area. Complete an application at New Spirit today. Reference NS 0618
