This little girl was adopted a few months back, and she is one spoiled child After the family left the room, she must have felt it was time to get more attention on their return.
Flye is a handsome 6 month old blue merle male with a full tail. He is shy but very sweet. He is craving human attention! He is also a leaner when you pet him! Flye is great with other dogs and he’d love to come home with you! Fostering in Mount Horab, Wisconsin.

Harlan is a very sweet 1-2 year old Australian Shepherd Male. He loves people, including small children-he is very comfortable and gentle around them! He will bond with you right away-he is very cuddly and will follow you wherever you go. He likes to sit on laps and nuzzle his head on whoever is giving him attention. Harlan has very nice personality-he is medium energy, so he has occasional bursts of puppy-like playfulness, but he is very calm most of the time. He also loves other dogs and does not show any aggression toward them. He is ready to play immediately upon meeting a new doggy friend! He is not possesive of food or bones-if another dog growls at him, he will back down and not challenge them. Harlan also loves kids!!!

Harlan is very smart, also. He is crate-trained and working on his manners in the house. After only a few corrections for going “potty” indoors he is doing remarkably well. He is very eager to please, so training will be a breeze, I think. He is very food motivated also. He likes to jump up, but not in a boisterous way-more like-”I like you and I want to get closer to you!” He is working on this also.

Harlan has a nice, soft coat and a fluffy white tail. He is medium-sized, about 40 pounds. He loves car rides and is very well-behaved when riding. Heis working at walking nicely on a leash. Meet Mr. Burns, no not the one that Homer doesn’t like but the good Mr. Burns. You see Burns is from Kentucky, and we think he was used to sire many puppies in a puppy mill, in other words a puppy mill stud, who was probably no longer needed to perform his duties. Well in the puppy mill world you are pretty much out the door, either dumped, put to sleep or worse kept in a crate until you die. Lucky for Burns he was able to find his way to a shelter, only to be set for the long walk, you see Mr. Burns had lots of strikes against him, he was old, he was blind in one eye, he has teeth worn down to the numb from chewing on the wires in his crate, he was arthritic, and he didn’t have a gleam of hope in his eyes. He was then transferred to another shelter to buy him 10 more days of life while rescues were pleaded with to take this old gentleman.

Burns was able to get to us at New Spirit, and he touched every heart along the way, causing many to cry and many to give him well deserved hugs and attention. Who was this thrown away Australian Shepherd that touched so many on his journey to safety?

So now meet the new and improved Mr. Burns, he is around 42 pounds, he is around 10 years old, we are working on his eye (we will probably have it removed, we aren’t sure on getting him a prosthetic eye, but if we can receive enough in donations, this guy can walk away with some additional pride!) as well as we will remove some of his teeth from the years of crate containment.

Mr. Burns when he arrived was very timid and unsure, but since he has been in his foster mom and dad’s spread up in Wisconsin, he has been given a new lease on life, he gets to have 2 other Aussies in the home to interact with, though they tend to ignore him, he is fine with that, he is just happy to not be crated, and allowed to actually loosen up his legs and run like the wind!

Mr. Burns rides well in a car, walks good on a leash, is learning to chase a ball, he is completely a gentleman and uses the great outdoors to do his business. He is getting used to what it’s like in a house and he is in heaven.

We would like to give an update on Mr. Burns, he had his eye surgery the other day and he is very uncomfortable, so any prayers and good vibes his way would really help him out. Mr. Burns will have one more surgery in a few months to remove some bad teeth. It really pains us to put him threw this as he doesn’t understand we are only trying to help him.

Mr. Burns woke up on Christmas to find that there really is a Santa Claus
Meet Mr. Burns, he is 1 10 year old blue merle Australian Shepherd, who was probably a puppy mill stud, who is now too old to matter and too damaged (according to the puppy mill) to be of any use to them. You see Mr. Burns was turned in for health reason to a shelter, health reasons that will cost money, and shelters can’t afford to spend money on such niceties as surgeries, they have too many dogs thrown away every day to care for. Mr. Burns was set for euthanization 2 times and each time was spared by the grace and kindness of a shelter manager who was willing to take him into their shelter to buy him 10 more days of life, hoping and praying that someone somewhere would see the value in Mr. Burns, and take him into rescue and attend to his needs. We saw him, and we saw his potential, dirty, matted and stained coat and all, he was of great value to us, we knew he would be a great Australian Shepherd, a credit to his breed.

Br. Burns needs a few items attended to, one is a very damaged pride and ego, one that was deflated and taken so low, that many that met him felt he was the saddest and probably should be let go and pass to the bridge, we say HECK NO! He has many fine years left in him, his sadness is already going away, and he is displaying the usual Aussie butt wiggles and the happy dance that so many Aussies will do.

Mr. Burns needs to have an eye that has gone bad removed, and if there is enough there, even a possible prosaic replacement, he also has teeth worn down to the numb, from being left in a crate all the time and from lots of boredom, you see puppy mill dogs don’t get toys, or attention, just produce puppies so we can buy them from the pet shops, aren’t they even cuter now that you know mom and dad are treated like some un-cared for machine?

Burns rides ok in a car, he walks well on a leash and gets along well with other dogs, he can’t be in a home with cats as he will probably hurt them. We will be testing him for more interactions so stay tuned.

Lillie is a 2.5 year old purebred female Australian Shepherd. She is a red tri with a docked tail. She weighs about 45 lbs and is the perfect size!

Lillie loves children and gets along with other dogs. She really loves cats too! She will sit and lick them clean if they dare get close enough! She has proven to be housebroken and crate trained and she rarely barks or makes any noise. She is one of the sweetest Aussies we’ve ever met. She loves to hang out and is very good about going outside to potty. She likes going for walks and is a medium energy girl. Upon meeting her foster parents that first night, she immediately crawled up on them and hung on for dear life. She really seems to appreciate having a warm spot to sleep and caring people to fuss over her. Lillie is an ex breeder dog who was dropped at the shelter after she quit making money for the ‘breeder’.

Meet little Nevaeh, Heaven spelled backwards. Nev is a deaf Australian Shepherd who weighs around 25 pounds, is around a year and a half old and is always busy and always happy. Nevaeh loves to play all the time, she will pretty much do anything for a tennis ball, so she is more tennis ball motivated then treat, but she loves those too.

Nevaeh is learning how to walk on a leash, she is pretty much housebroken, it’s more of a deal that she plays so hard that she forgets she needs to go the bathroom, but the tennis balls are working and she is learning that potty outside is how she gets her tennis ball. She will crate, though she is fine at night. Once she is in the swing she probably won’t even need to be crated.

Nevaeh plays well with other dogs, she might take a day to warm up, but once she is she is fine. She rides well in a car, though since she is deaf, we would always recommend a harness/seatbelt or a crate. Honestly all dogs need secured when in a car.

Since Nevaeh is deaf we ask she goes to a family that is prepared to manage a deaf dog, basically learning some sign language (what a great thing to teach the kids, and yourself!) and possibly a companion dog to help be her ears.

Gunnar Becker is a wiggly mini red tri Australian Shepherd who weighs around 30-35 pounds. His foster mom has nicknamed this mini red aussie Mr. Wiggles as he would loss a pair of pants if he wore pants since he wiggles his butt so much. Gunnar is very affectionate and loves to snuggle in bed and on the couch. Gunnar is learning how to walk on a leash and go into his crate. Once in his crate he is quiet and will lay down. Gunnar likes to be outside and will chase his foster brothers around the yard. He also likes bones and toys. Gunnar loves people and other dogs, even kids! He doesn’t mind cats either.

Charcoal is a 10 year old Aussie/Norwegian Elk Hound mix. Both breeds can be stunning and the combination certainly is! He resembles a gentle gray wolf and gets along with every dog he meets. Charcoal is a mellow boy, and weighs about 50 pounds. Like any perfect gentleman, he is completely reliable in the house. He is indifferent toward cats, but does notice and like children very much.

This beauty is a striking 1 year old blue merle female. She ‘s on the smaller size at 33 pounds. Brenna is a dog loving, people loving little girl. She ignores cats as they aren’t much good to her.
She is medium to high energy girl with a Vecro personality, like most aussies. Brenna walks very well on leash and likes to play with toys and will play fetch.
Brenna knows sit and stay and is also learning about her crate, and what a great place it is!

Zacchia is a 5 month old blue merle Aussie/Catalahou mix puppy with striking blue eyes. He is around 30 pounds, he loves everyone he meets and is actually working on his potty manners and seems to be doing very well.
He rides very well in a car, is working on his walks on a leash and likes other dogs and is good around cats.
He is very active, he will probably get to around 45-55 pounds when he grows up and will probably be very active. He is also crate trained and knows when bedtime is.
